Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is located on the St. Mary’s River between Lake Huron and Lake Superior on the U.S. / Canadian border.

The Sault has all the amenities of a regional urban centre, with both the Canadian wilderness and extraordinary vacation areas in Michigan just minutes away.

Sault Ste. Marie is served by three Canadian airlines as well as one major U.S. airline.

Sault Area Hospital (SAH) has dedicated staff, physicians and volunteers who work together to deliver outstanding care and services to a catchment population of approximately 115,000.

With an approved complement of nearly 300 beds in spectacular new facilities, SAH provides primary, secondary and select tertiary services to residents in Sault Ste.

Marie and the District of Algoma. In addition to providing core services in Emergency and Critical Care; Medicine; Surgery;

Obstetrics, Maternity & Paediatrics; Mental Health and Addictions; Complex Continuing Care; and Rehabilitation, SAH is also home to the Algoma Regional Renal Program and the Algoma District Cancer Program.

Sault Ste. Marie is seeking full time psychiatrists to provide clinical services in the Schedule One Hospital and across a full continuum of psychiatric care.

SAH’s Mental Health and Addictions program consists of 30 adult inpatient beds, 4 child and adolescent beds, a residential withdrawal management facility, 7 outpatient clinics and 15 community based programs.

You will join a group of 10 psychiatrists and be well supported by a multi-disciplinary team that includes nurses, psychologists, social workers and numerous Masters level therapists.

There is also support from academic psychiatrists from the University of Toronto who provide locum coverage.

The candidate must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or be eligible or licensed to practice medicine independently in Ontario.

Please ensure you have had your credentials assessed and have a letter of exam eligibility from the RCPSC prior to application.

Assistance may be provided for those requiring supervision as well as work permit or permanent residency.

Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.

This position will be remunerated with a combination of clinical sessional fees, Ontario Health Insurance Plan billings and Hospital On-Call compensation.

This position is eligible for the Ontario Ministry of Health incentive offered through the Northern Rural Recruitment & Retention Initiative of more than $83,000 and the Northern Specialist Alternative Funding Plan.
