The Opportunity :

WSP's Transportation Systems team in Canada is growing and looking for a strategic partner for its major projects. We are seeking to hire a Senior Director, Communications and Marketing.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, External Relations, this role will actively participate in implementing engagement strategies and achieving social acceptance of the various projects for which he / she will be responsible, to meet the objectives of the project proponents and clients.

What you can expect to do here :

Depending on the needs of the various projects, you will :

  • Define public affairs, communications and marketing strategies in line with the priorities and objectives of the clients and proponents of the projects for which you will be responsible, in order to support social acceptance and regulatory filings with the various authorities;
  • Ensure team and plan alignment with the business objectives of clients, project delivery partners, and ultimately the firm;
  • Preserve the reputation of WSP, its partners, and the various clients and developers;
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with all project stakeholders;
  • Maintain media relations and proactively generate media opportunities to maximize local and national coverage;
  • Advise and assisting clients and proponents with strategic positioning, public communications, interviews and other matters;
  • Establish and maintain an effective crisis management process;
  • Implement best practices and tools to optimize all aspects of the function;
  • Act as spokesperson for current issues or crisis management;
  • Prepare and accompany various subject matter experts for media interviews and other strategic speaking engagements;
  • Ensure consistency of messages to all internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ensure the development of performance key indicators to evaluate and monitor the progress of all public actions and campaigns;

What you'll bring to WSP :

  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English and French;
  • Experience in planning and implementing communications related to infrastructure projects;
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in a team leadership role in communications; (internal and external), marketing, media relations, social media, public affairs and crisis management;
  • Strategic mindset with experience working in an environment with multiple external and internal stakeholders;
  • Understanding of the public sector and / or experience in a leadership role within a Crown corporation;
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with senior management;
  • Ability to question ways of doing things and processes and proactively develop inventive solutions with an eye toward sound management;
  • Ability to manage multiple urgent files simultaneously and adapt to a changing environment;
  • High degree of autonomy, organizational skills and ability to prioritize;
  • Experience in a large company with national or international operations;
  • Ability to see situations in a broader context and find innovative solutions;
  • Ability to present and argue ideas;
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and conceptualize;
  • Experience of working with multiple providers, including consulting firms;
  • Initiative, independence, curiosity, creativity and flexibility
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and rigour.
