The Engineering System Specialist - OTA works within the Quality Engineering department at the Honda Canada National Office (HCI). The responsibilities of this position include the planning, validation, deployment, and post-launch monitoring of Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates for Honda and Acura vehicles in the Canadian market. This role supports OTA-related quality investigations and identifies market issues through data analysis, warranty review, and field investigation activities. The purpose of these activities is to ensure continuous quality improvement for Honda products in the Canadian automotive market.
Responsibilities
- Deploy Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates for various vehicle platforms. This includes pre-launch preparation, software validation, launch execution, and post deployment analysis.
- Manage OTA campaign schedules and coordinate closely with Honda stakeholders to ensure successful and timely launches.
- Monitor OTA campaign performance, identify OTA-related quality issues, and drive resolution through software countermeasures.
- Conduct data analysis of warranty claims and field reports to define and prioritize commonly occurring OTA-related issues.
- Issue reports for investigation activity – technical investigation to understand failure. This involves collecting and testing failed warranty parts, problem reproduction, and dealer visits.
- Provide technical support to various groups within Honda Canada including Tech Line, Field Engineering Specialists, Customer Relations, Product Planning, Publications, Sales, Advertising, IT, Training, and Legal.
- Generate service publications for dealers, other departments, and zones outlining update release notes and repair methods to address issues identified recently in the market.
- Represent Honda Canada in regional (North American) and global meetings by assembling and presenting Canadian market OTA performance, quality issues, and investigation findings.
- Coordinate directly with electrical and software suppliers to develop countermeasures.
Qualifications
University Degree - Engineering, preferably in Automotive, Electrical, Mechanical, or System Design.3 years minimum of automotive or related experience combined with strong project management capability.Professional Engineering designation.Strong understanding of OTA system updates, telematics, smartphones and infotainment systems.Knowledge of automotive electrical systems, CAN communication, wiring diagrams, and diagnostics.Demonstrated hands-on experience with vehicle repair / problem diagnosis from prior work experience or willingness to learn.Networking / communication skills to interact with design and development teams and outside suppliers to report and resolve any defects identified.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in preparing technical documents.Experience in MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.Must have strong analytical, planning, organization, and strategic skills.Must be a self-starter with ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external affiliates.Proven interest and ability to learn new vehicle technologies.Valid ‘G’ driver’s license required.Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally on short notice.Willing and able to work overtime on short notice.Develops and maintains good working relationships with all members of the team.Develops and maintains good working relationships within Honda North America as well as all other internal and external stakeholders.Develop, establish, and maintain good working relationships with Honda North America suppliers, partners, consultants, stakeholders and other network contacts.Enjoys team-building approach of management and department - shares results.Hiring practices
The salary range for this position is $86,900- $108,600 CAD annually. Individual salaries within this range are determined by a variety of job-related factors, including education, experience, knowledge, and skill set.
This is an on-site with occasional work-from-home position that requires employees to work on-site four days per week with the opportunity to work-from-home one day per week (with a dedicated workspace at the assigned company office) .
