Position : Adventure Learning Leader (ALL) Designation : Unit Leader
Type of Position : Summer Contract, Full Time, Select Weeks
Salary : $4105 $4455 (6 week contract)
Contract Dates* : May 17th 20th and June 24 July 5 and July 14 July 19 and July 28 August 16
Adventure Learning Leader contracts include 1 week of staff training and 5 weeks of expeditionary programs. Contract extensions up to 3 additional weeks assisting with our onsite camp programs can be negotiated.
Adventure Learning Leaders are part of the UNIT LEADER team at Canterbury Hills. Unit Leaders work in staff teams of 2-3 to provide direct supervision to an assigned unit (group) of campers.
Each Unit Leader works with their unit for the entirety of a weeklong session. Unit Leaders enjoy days filled with activity facilitation, camper interaction, and outdoor adventure.
Unit Leaders are supervised in their work by members of the senior staff team, called the Resource Team.
Among Unit Leaders, Adventure Learning Leaders work to provide care, supervision, and a memorable experience to campers in our Adventure camp program and Leader-in-Training program.
Adventure Camp is for campers aged 13-15 and the Leader-in-Training program is for participants aged 14 & 15 years old. Every week of the ALL contract will include between 3-5 days of offsite expeditionary programming.
ALLs will guide program participants in hiking, camping, and canoeing trips along established routes on the Grand River and along the Niagara Escarpment.

- Arrival onsite by 12 : 00pm on Sunday, departure on Friday after end of week clean-up and debrief of each Adventure week
- Supervision of assigned Adventure or Expedition Unit (8-12 campers) aged 13 to 15 years old, working alongside other Adventure staff and the Leadership Development Coordinator
- Completing inventory, packing, and maintenance of out-tripping gear
- Full participation in offsite expedition components for all contracted weeks
- Planning and facilitating daily Unit activities
- Supporting group dynamics, encouraging positive interactions, and addressing any concerns
- All meals provided
- Experience and comfort with paddling, multi day camping, and trip hiking necessary
- Preference given to candidates with current National Lifeguard Certification, or willingness to obtain
