The Security Officer role is multifaceted and critical to maintaining safety and security within the organization. Here’s a breakdown of the key responsibilities and qualifications expected for this position.
Responsibilities
Emergency Response and Leadership :
- Act as the first responder to emergency situations, taking charge of the scene and coordinating responses
- Handle potentially violent situations involving clients (over 4000 per year) and maintain control of the situation
- Lead the organization’s response to workplace violence and harassment incidents, collaborating with Occupational Health and Human Resources
Risk Management and Documentation :
Mitigate risks through thorough documentation and investigation of incidentsMonitor access control, CCTV, and alarms to ensure the security of the facilityManage asset control and oversee the Lost & Found servicesProgram Development and Training :
Contribute to the development and implementation of the Workplace Violence & Harassment ProgramProvide education and training to staff on security protocols and emergency proceduresPhysical Intervention and Security Systems :
Facilitate physical intervention strategies in violent situations when necessaryMaintain and operate security systems effectivelyOther Duties :
Manage heliport response and maintenance, ensuring readiness for medical emergenciesAct as an ambassador for RVH by upholding a professional and approachable demeanorQualifications
Education : Minimum Grade 12 education required; Mandatory Post Secondary Education in Police Foundations, Protection, Safety & Investigation, Community Justice or a Degree in a related fieldCertification : Must maintain a valid Security Guard LicenseExperience : Previous experience dealing with the public, security systems, and ideally within a healthcare infrastructure is an assetSkills and Attributes :
Professional appearance with strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively in a variety of settingsAbility to demonstrate leadership in emergency planning and responseProficiency in verbal de-escalation techniques; certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is advantageousIdeal Candidate for the position
