The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids (GH-CCMH) is a child and youth mental health center integrated with GH-CCMH is also a member of the Thriving Minds Mental Health Access Collaborative with CAMH and SickKids and a core service provider in the Toronto sector of infant, child and youth mental health services funded by the Ministry of Health. GH-CCMH provides prevention, early intervention and health promotion services across the city, funded by MOH and other sources. As such, the Center has an ambitious agenda to provide the highest quality, evidence-based care, offering a range of services from prevention and early intervention to counseling and therapy, assessment and intensive supports. Services are offered in person and in virtual format. We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time contract 1.0 FTE Program Psychologist. This position will be based in our Intensive Service for Children at the Sheppard site. This position involves working with children, ages 6-13 and their families who have a range of complex mental health, behavioural and learning challenges. The successful candidate will work closely within an interprofessional team comprised of Child and Family Therapists, a consulting Psychiatrist, as well as a consulting Occupational Therapist, Child and Youth Care Practitioners, and Teachers to provide psychological services. The Psychologist will be expected to provide clinical leadership and support to Intensive Services for Children, particularly with respect to assessment, case formulation, consultation, treatment planning and intervention.

This position reports to the Senior Clinical Manager of Intensive Services for Children and, for practice related issues, reports to the Advanced Practice Lead for Psychology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Services

  • Provide clinical leadership to the Intensive Services for Children team, with respect to assessment, case formulation, consultation and treatment planning
  • Provide comprehensive formulations and consultations, through file reviews, observations and direct comprehensive assessments as needed
  • Maintains a caseload to provide direct psychotherapy service
  • Participate directly in the initial assessment of day treatment referrals, in collaboration with the Child and Family Therapists/interprofessional team
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional team in the development and review of formulation and treatment plans
  • Provide interpretation and education to the team with respect to psychological assessment results
  • Provide consultation to the other professionals providing treatment
  • Contribute to the training of psychology trainees, as well as other disciplines as designated
  • Provide ongoing clinical and administrative supervision to trainees/personnel, as designated
  • Write or oversee the writing of all documentation related to the provision of services and meet agency, professional and legal standards
  • Attend and/or chair meetings internally and externally related to the program and Centre as designated
  • Initiate and participate in research and program development/strategic directions evaluation projects related to children’s mental health, in collaboration with the Center’s research/program evaluation team(s).
  • Represent the program and/or Center in a professional and ethical manner
  • Maintain up to date professional development

Qualifications

  • This position requires a Doctoral degree in Psychology and eligibility for certification to practice in the Province of Ontario (if from outside Ontario, must demonstrate that all registration requirements can be met at time of hiring) and declared competency in clinical/counselling psychology with children (preschoolers, children, and adolescents) and families. Strong preference will be given to Psychologists already registered for autonomous practice in good standing
  • Minimum of 3-5 years related clinical experience in children’s mental health treatment, including working with children 5-18 years of age and their families
  • Experience in school-based and/or milieu programs would be an asset
  • Knowledge of various therapy approaches in both individual and family therapy
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver care that is trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally responsive
  • Prior experience supervising students (e.g. psychology practicum students and interns)
  • First Aid, CPR and Behaviour Management Techniques
  • Ability to use computer software tools and resources, such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
