Thompson Construction Group is seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to join our Infrastructure division based out of our head office in Spruce Grove, Alberta. This role leads the estimating function for land development and subdivision projects with a primary focus on water, sanitary, storm, and underground utility construction.
The Estimating Manager is responsible for overseeing tender preparation, ensuring accurate and competitive estimates, and supporting the successful transition of awarded projects to the operations team.
Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage the estimating process for water, sewer, and underground utility projects
- Review and summarize tender documents to determine scope of work and assess risks and opportunities
- Interpret drawings, specifications, standards, and regulations to support accurate estimating and pricing strategies
- Prepare and review detailed estimates for labour, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work
- Oversee quantity take-offs, quantity reconciliation, and estimate development
- Obtain, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations for completeness, compliance, and cost effectiveness
- Track tender addenda, clarifications, and submission requirements
- Lead the preparation and completion of tender packages for internal review and submission
- Collaborate with Project Managers and site supervision to support execution planning following project award
- Participate in pre-tender, post-tender, and project startup meetings
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, tools, and best practices
Qualifications :
Minimum 5–10 years of estimating experience in water & sewer or underground utilities within AlbertaPrevious leadership or supervisory experience in an estimating environment is considered an assetDiploma or Undergraduate Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related fieldStrong knowledge of underground utility construction, land development processes, and municipal standardsProficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and estimating / take-off software (e.g., Bluebeam, B2W, MS Project)Strong communication, technical writing, and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressureBenefits (Full-Time Salary)
