Duties

External Relations Student :

The primary objective of the External Relations Student Team is to connect people to Parks Canada and the sites it administers in Northern and South-Eastern New Brunswick, as well as part of Nova Scotia through engaging educational programs and digital content.

Responsibilities include :

  • Learning, developing and delivering outreach and educational messages and programs on Parks Canada administered places, specifically Kouchibouguac National Park, Grand-Pré National Historic Site, Fort Beauséjour Fort Cumberland National Historic Site, Boishébert and Beaubears Island Shipbuilding National Historic Sites, Monument-Lefebvre National Historic Site, Beaubassin and Fort Lawrence National Historic Sites, Fort Gaspareaux National Historic Site.
  • Digitally engaging with the public in ways that reflect Parks Canadas brand and mandate.
  • Writing and editing creative communications materials including social media posts, web content, and video and podcast scripts.

These materials will serve to promote programming, special events and conservation efforts taking place in sites managed by Parks Canada.

  • Assisting in project design to create new and innovative educational products through photo collages, video editing and minor photography services.
  • Attending public events and venues to represent Parks Canada and connect with target audiences.
  • Collecting and reporting outreach data.
  • Program support for different sections of the External Relations team.

Work environment

External Relations students will work out of the Parks Canada Office located at Main Street in Moncton, as well as in a variety of special event locations and venues and at home when possible.

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canadas outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to hire External Relations students for the summer for Parks Canada, Northern New Brunswick Field Unit - Moncton Office.

EDUCATION :

Please confirm that you meet these eligibility factors :

  • registered as a full time or part-time secondary or post secondary student in an accredited academic program; or
  • participating in adult education and retraining programs at the secondary level, operated under the authority of an accredited academic institution.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EXPERIENCE :

  • Experience working with the public;
  • Experience working in a team environment;
  • Experience in and knowledge of basic marketing, communications and / or social media principles.

KNOWLEDGE :

Parks Canada, its objectives and mandate.

ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and / or statutory holidays and provincial / territorial holidays;
  • Possession of a valid First Aid certification;
  • Possession of a valid Driver's license;
  • Perform certain physical tasks as per job requirements. The work involves moving between venues and working outdoors. During Outreach and Education activities, the work may involve physical requirements such as lifting equipment and / or boxes during activity setup or dismantle.

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

  • Reliability Status security clearance;
  • Parks Canada prohibits smoking or vaping in the workplace;
  • Be exposed to variable weather conditions;
  • Must wear a Parks Canada uniform;
  • May be required to wear the Parks Canada mascot costume.
