Financial Controller
Vaughan (On-site - 5 days / week)
Our client is a well-established, privately held real estate land development group . Known for its collaborative, family-oriented culture and long-term approach to development, the organization is well-capitalized, growth-focused, and committed to building sustainable communities.
We are partnering with them to identify a Financial Controller to join their finance leadership team. This role will oversee the accounting, financial reporting, and cash management for a portfolio of land development projects while leading and supporting a sizable team of accounting professionals. The ideal candidate is a technically strong CPA with real estate development experience who values collaboration, culture, and hands‑on leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee full-cycle project accounting across a portfolio of land development projects
- Lead and support a team of general, AP, and project accountants
- Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial statements
- Maintain ownership of year‑end financial reporting and audit processes (including coordination with external auditors)
- Manage payroll operations using ADP for approximately 40 employees
- Review and approve cheque runs, bank draws, banker’s acceptances (BA’s), and bank reporting
- Manage financing facilities, loans, letters of credit, and cash positions; recommend financing requirements as needed
- Partner closely with Project Managers on project‑level financial matters, leasing structures, and development economics
- Prepare and review investor reporting, cash calls, and distributions
- Oversee government reporting (HST, T5018, etc.) and manage CRA inquiries and audits
- Support ongoing corporate maintenance activities (entity setup, dissolutions, amalgamations)
- Drive process improvement initiatives, including adoption of NetSuite, AI, and automation tools
Qualifications
3–5+ years of experience in a Controller, Project Controller, or senior accounting roleStrong background in real estate land development accountingExperience managing and mentoring accounting teamsFamiliarity with financing arrangements, bank relationships, and investor reportingPayroll experience required (ADP experience preferred)Experience with NetSuite (Oracle) strongly preferredTech‑savvy with an interest in AI, automation, and process improvementStrong analytical, communication, and organizational skillsWhat Our Client Offers
