We are now taking applications for an experienced crew leader to join our management team, the start date is flexible and could be as soon as Fall 2024.
This is a great opportunity to work with a fantastic team of dedicated people. We’re all learning new things every day. The farm operates year-round and supplies the vibrant Warehouse Market in Halifax, a large 22-week farm share, and a few restaurants.
We are looking for an energetic person with experience, who is interested in a longer-term opportunity.

Job Title : Crew Leader
Reports to : Head Grower and Farm Owners
Hours : Main season (May to November) Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM with a one hour unpaid lunch break. Mid season or on hot days the hours may shift to 7AM to 4 PM.
Start Date : Sept 2024 or as soon as possible
Main Responsibilities
We are looking for someone with farm management experience who is interested in working on and in our business. Maybe you’ve run a farm business or managed a team in another context, we want to learn from your experience as our business continues to grow.

All farm team members will meet every morning for a team meeting to determine the work for the day or week ahead. Everyone works as a team to set priorities and accomplish tasks to operate the farm safely and efficiently.
Every team member will be given specific areas of responsibility, but the team will often work together on big jobs.
Main Duties
Orienting new staff including general orientation to the farm, training on daily tasks as well as demonstrating and establishing efficient work habits
Leading members of the farm team in tasks such as harvesting, transplanting and weeding
Working with the rest of the farm management team to plan daily tasks, problem solve and streamline processes for everyday tasks such as harvest, transplanting and weeding
Working with the admin team to establish policies and procedures for training and everyday farm operations
Desired Qualities and Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work well as part of a team. Two to three years of farm experience, especially management experience.
A driver's license and comfort with driving delivery vehicles is also an asset.
Physical Fitness
Abundant Acres Farm is a fast-paced environment where you will be working under pressure doing repetitive tasks that can be physically demanding, and require attention to detail and hand-eye coordination.
You will be standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods of time and working in all weather conditions.
Benefits to Working at Abundant Acres
- Employees living on-farm access to produce grown on the farm.
- Employees living off-farm are entitled to $30 worth of marketable produce grown on the farm per week. This produce must be harvested by the employee during unpaid time.
Unmarketable produce can also be taken in a reasonable quantity to allow sharing with the entire farm team.
- Off-farm employees are offered a farm lunch (no charge) together. All employees are expected to help cook on a rotation (paid time) as well as clean up after meals on a rotation (unpaid time).
- After a waiting period of six months, full time employees (working 20 hours per week or more) can choose to opt in to our Chambers of Commerce Group Health Benefits plan.
Starting hourly pay of $20 based on experience and ability of employee. On farm room and board available for $100 a week.
You must be a Canadian citizen or already entitled to work in Canada.
