Summary :

The Health and Safety Advisor will report to the Health and Safety Manager at our Mississauga Cement Plant. You will be a safety leader at our facility and will be carrying out our plant safety program "See, Stop, Do."

What you’ll be contributing :

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for OHS department.
  • Maintain OHS, Disability and Training records, files, and databases.
  • Prepare OHS reports and presentations.
  • Writing health and safety programs and procedures for approval by OHS Manager.
  • Assist in the development and deliver required safety training.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to assure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Participate in incident investigation and / or emergency response.
  • Liaises with management, employees, external OHS related agencies.
  • Other duties and assignments as required.

To succeed in this position, you will need :

  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Knowledge of OH&S Act, WSIA with emphasis on WSIB policies and processes.
  • Experience in cement or related industry (such as lime, metals, minerals or mining) or construction strongly preferred.
  • Effectively examine events, issues and problems and generate optimal solutions in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with impact and create an environment in which people communicate honestly and openly.
  • Develop and leverage effective networks and relationships with others inside and outside of the organization.
  • Work effectively in the face of ambiguity, shifting priorities and rapid change while actively developing one’s skills and capabilities.
  • Ability to deal with complex, sensitive and personal issues while maintaining confidentiality.

Physical Requirements :

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This position may require some lifting of objects no heavier than twenty pounds (20lbs.)
  • This position requires periods of standing and walking.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and scaffolds and work upon platforms.

Work Environment :

Working outdoors at varied temperatures and weather conditions.

Working indoors in varied conditions (ie. hot noisy, dusty).

Exposure to extreme heat.

Working in confined spaces.

Working at heights.

Effortless mobility through all areas of the plant.

This position is based across the plant.
