Overall Purpose

The Toronto District School Board invites applications for a temporary assignment of Speech-Language Pathologist, in the Regional Education Offices.

Reporting to the Manager of Speech-Language Pathology, the Speech-Language Pathologist will provide speech-language pathology services to school age students referred for speech, language and communication needs.

The temporary Contract may be ended prior to its intended conclusion date for cause with no notice or for operational reasons subject to the provisions of Article C.1.4.1.

Summary of Duties

  • Provide assessment, intervention, programming and consultation services to students referred for speech, language and communication difficulties, to enhance their language learning through the curriculum;
  • Provide information and suggestions for parents' use at home;
  • Provide classroom-based programming for students in some special education programs;
  • Work on school support teams and contribute to educational planning for students with speech and language needs;
  • Provide the results of services to school support teams, principals, teachers, and parents.
  • Complete written reports in a timely manner;
  • Maintain confidential files and records in accordance with professional standards;
  • Develop and conduct in-service, workshops and presentations as required;
  • Participate in the professional development activities of the department; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Speech-Language Pathology.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology;
  • Registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO);
  • Experience with school-aged children preferred;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, school staff, parents and members of interdisciplinary teams within a number of school settings;
  • Knowledge of related legislation, codes, regulations, policies and procedures as they pertain to Speech and Language Pathology;
  • Commitment to and demonstrated skills in teamwork and teambuilding in an environment that promotes equitable practices and values diversity; and
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Special Requirements

  • Provision of own vehicle for Board business; requires valid Ontario driver’s licence
  • Requires regular travel

    Hours of Work :

    Full-time : 7 hours / day; Half-time : 3.5 hours / day

    Work Year : 194 plus 3 days

    Location :

    This position will be located within Professional Support Services at :

    1 Civic Centre Court (LC1), and 140 Borough Drive (LC2)

    Travel :

    This position requires travel to various schools and use of car is required, for which employees shall receive a monthly Travel Allowance in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
