Overview

Reporting to the Director, Underwriting (Pricing) for Munich Re Canada, the Senior Actuarial Associate will be responsible for analyzing the profitability of reinsurance treaties, closely working with the underwriting & client management teams to ensure competitive pricing for quote opportunities, and conducting strategic projects to improve the performance of the treaty portfolio.

Your job

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Prepare treaty reinsurance pricing independently, including establishing and defending pricing assumptions for quote opportunities
  • Communicate and present pricing results to the underwriting team regularly during treaty renewal period, while simultaneously managing multiple timelines to ensure a smooth treaty renewal process
  • Contribute to the development of pricing assumptions and strategies which includes update of the pricing model parameters, market analysis and other strategic projects
  • Support reinsurance facultative and primary single risks pricing
  • Provide CAT modelling support as required by using industry and in-house software
  • Challenge the status quo and provide recommendations on areas of improvement
  • Design, test and maintain pricing tools, including reports to monitor the treaty business performance
  • Attend industry seminars and workshops as necessary by business
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks to achieve the goals and objectives of the company

Your profile

  • Required Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or equivalent
  • 5+ years of P&C actuarial work experience, commercial and reinsurance pricing experience preferred
  • Working towards FCAS designation with the completion of at least 4 actuarial exams

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Programing and modeling experience such as : VBA, R, SQL, Python, Power BI, AIR, RMS considered an asset
  • Capable of carrying out actuarial analysis with minimal supervision and be self-driven to deliver business insights
  • Proven experience leading projects and provide coaching to junior staffs
  • Strong presentation skills to communicate technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to prioritize, while remaining flexible to deal with changing work demands
