Your responsibilities

This role primarily is tasked to develop short- and long-term supply and demand analysis of policy driven markets in coordination with our fundamental analytics team and warehouse and manage portfolio positions in accordance with our risk governance framework and policies.

Responsibilities include :

Research, analyze, summarize, and create reports on U.S. and Canadian renewable energy credit (REC) and carbon markets, including;

RPS, voluntary REC, AB32, and voluntary carbon markets and renewable fuels.

Research, build, and manage fundamental supply and demand models

Develop short term trading thesis and identify actionable based upon fundamental, quantitative and technical analysis

Work with origination and mid-marketing team in pricing and facilitating bilateral customer transactions

Manage at-risk warehoused positions using exchanged cleared transaction and bilateral counterparty liquidity

Track legislation and regulation changes for U.S. and Canadian REC and carbon markets, focusing on RPS, Carbon programs and Solar carve-out markets

Process Carbon products and REC purchases and sale deliveries in various regional tracking systems (GATS, GIS, MRETS, ERCOT, WREGIS, COATS, CITTS, etc )

Coordinate with Settlements, Risk, and Finance teams in variance analysis on portfolio, impairment testing; revenue, gross margin, and cash-flows.

Manage deliveries, receipts and inventory in coordination with Risk, Accounting and general portfolio management.

Coordinate with operation teams for QRE management, custodial services and offset certification process, as well as Carbon Compliance Desk Audits and reporting.

Provide subject matter expertise to, and coordinate with, Risk, Compliance, Legal, an Regulatory Affairs in the processing of all applicable state compliance filings including;

validating reporting datasets, processing filing tables, identifying and retiring associated RECs and Carbon in the applicable tracking systems or registries, and generating reports internally to settlements, finance, and risk teams

Listening into various market committee meetings and other pertinent regulatory and legislative matters insofar that it relates to energy markets, environmental markets, pricing and portfolios

Develop, implement and maintain tools and processes to gather, interpret, and model information for use in strategic planning, fundamental assessments, price forecast activities, and market trend analysis.

Perform valuation, pricing and various sensitivity and scenario analyses on current and potential transactions.

Create monthly fundamental snapshot reports for Environmental Product markets for the greater team, management current or prospective clients.

Your profile

Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, environmental science, engineering, economics, operations research, or related discipline

Graduate degree preferred; PhDs welcome

At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, analyzing or trading environmental commodity markets, trading RECs, Carbon or other environmental products.

Experience with economic dispatch, generation commitment and load management.

Excellent analytical and modeling skills with detail orientation and ability to produce accurate and defensible work products

Experience in long-term fundamental models such as Aurora, Prosym, Promod, PLEXOS, Velocity, PowerWorld, or other relevant tools

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, VBA, SQL tools, Matlab, R and / or Python

Strong analytical and problem solving skills with sound conceptual thinking

Ability to make decisions quickly and communicate market opportunities to others

Strong work ethic and self-discipline, with ability to work effectively as part of a team, adapt, and work under aggressive deadlines
