Your Opportunity :

We looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic, and dynamic team member to fill the position of a full-time Addiction Counsellor in the Cardston Opioid Dependency Treatment Program.

The Addiction Counsellor will be responsible for the delivery of a continuum of treatment services, including screening, assessment, treatment planning, harm reduction, case management and therapeutic services in individual and group settings.

The Addiction Counsellor will maintain accurate and appropriate documentation on client files in a timely fashion and be able to complete referrals to various treatment programs.

The successful candidate will work at the Cardston opioid Dependency Treatment located in the Cardston Hospital. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and with community partners, including Indigenous partners of the Blood Tribe and Piikani Nations.

Clientele are frequently people who struggle to access and connect with services; therefore, the Addiction Counsellor must demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity to offer services appropriately and effectively.

The Addiction Counsellor will also provide addiction prevention and health promotion services as needed, and will demonstrate community development practices, along with the ability to provide consultation and direct services to enable communities to effectively deal with addiction issues.

This position reports to the Manager of the Opioid Dependency Treatment Team.

Description :

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families;

as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families.

You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions.

A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization / permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and / or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications :

Previous experience working with local Indigenous populations (Blood Tribe, Piikani). One year experience providing a full spectrum of addiction counselling services in a concurrent context.

Preferred Qualifications :

Ability to speak Blackfoot is an asset. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training. Suicide Risk Assessment and Prevention training.
