Organic farm assistant
ORGANIC FARMING
About Samsara Fields Organics
Built on 3 generations of farming heritage in beautiful Norfolk County, Samsara Fields Organics was re-born in 2009 following a transformational migration through several global regions experiencing social upheaval particualry the effects of environmental and food insecurity.
Inspired by the many community activists who tirelessly give to their communities, Samsara Fields Organics is a journey of learning, growing and sharing.
Spread over 45 acres, we cultivate diverse heirloom crops, including over 20 varieties of garlic, greens, fruiting vegetables, heritage flour corn, and root crops.
Dedicated to sustainable organic agricultural paractices, the Farm is an integration of life cycles - seed to plant to harvest to market to kitchen to community.
There is also a certified kitchen where we create canned, fermented and freeze dried products. A CSA, 4 weekly markets (mostly in Toronto) and wholesale clients are the channels through which produce is sold.
The Position
The responsibilities of farming are many, as reflected in the position. Seed sowing, plant care, transplanting, weed control, harvest, market prep, logistics, market presence, light machine work (small tractor use), use of hand tools, greenhouse care, product prep for kitchen, it's a little (lot!!) of everything! Use of tech (mobile phone, social media, spreadsheets) is strongly encouraged.
