Research Assistant

Location: WRHN @ Regional Cancer Centre

Position Summary

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) plays a critical role in the development, initiation, and execution of complex clinical trials. The CRC applies specialized technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and strong interpersonal skills to coordinate operational, regulatory, and participant‑related activities. This role ensures that all research is conducted in alignment with scientific, ethical, institutional, and regulatory standards, including ICH‑GCP, Health Canada Division 5, and TCPS2. The CRC is responsible for safeguarding participant safety, maintaining data integrity, and supporting the successful and timely completion of clinical studies—directly contributing to advancing research and improving patient care.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Coordinating participant recruitment, screening, informed consent, and study visit scheduling.
  • Collecting, entering, verifying, and managing clinical and laboratory data in electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap)
  • Preparing and maintaining regulatory documents, ethics submissions, and compliance reporting.
  • Liaising with investigators, sponsors, multidisciplinary teams, and participants to ensure study activities are executed smoothly and safely.

The CRC functions as a subject‑matter expert and functional advisor, guiding study teams and contributing to the organization’s research capacity, compliance culture, and reputation for research excellence.

Position Requirements

Application Instructions

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health, science or medically-related discipline (required)
  • Post-diploma certification in Clinical Trials Management (required)
  • Certification in GCP, Division 5, TCPS2 (required)
  • Prior experience coordinating clinical trials, managing participant interactions and supporting regulatory compliance
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong project management, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Proficient in MS Windows environment (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Frequent prolonged periods of sitting, standing and movement between clinical and office environments. Requires handling of study materials, preparation and conducing of physical assessments.
  • Ability to sustain high levels of mental, visual, and listening concentration
  • Possible requirement to travel between hospital sites
  • Good attendance record
