CLAIMS ADJUSTER - COMPLEX LOSS

Hybrid 2 Days in Office-Kemptville, ON

Our client is a community focused insurance provider rooted in Eastern Ontario. Their coverage is designed for people who choose to live and work outside the hustle-bustle of urban centres.

They are seeking a Claims Adjuster with experience handling complex loss claims.

The primary focus of this adjuster is to provide professional, timely and efficient service to put the insured back in the position they were in prior to the loss by assessing the degree and value of the claims and proposing commensurate compensation.

In addition to their support of the policyholder, the incumbent in this position will support their colleagues by way of mentorship, training, authorization and claims triaging.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Drive investigations required as the internal adjuster of property claims, with a focus on complex losses such as dwelling fires, barn fires, oil spills and liability property damage claims
  • Attend loss location and other offsite meetings as appropriate
  • Interpret, analyze and apply policy wordings to claims presented
  • Set, review and maintain claim reserves
  • Summarize and provide clear, concise direction to the insured both verbally and in writing
  • Examine adjusted complex losses from external partners
  • Collect and maintain documentation to support claims
  • Assess amounts payable, negotiate and make payments up to pre-approved authority limit and obtain authorization on those amounts over said limit
  • Provide dealings both verbally and in writing with insureds, contractors, engineers, appraisers, lawyers and brokers
  • Report to and facilitate recovery from the Company’s reinsurance company in accordance with the reinsurance treaty
  • Work with loss prevention and underwriting to identify risks and trends
  • Provide leadership, training, mentoring, payment and denial authorization to Level 3 Claims Adjusters in relation to property claims
  • Review and provide guidance on incoming property claims to Level 3 Claims Adjusters
  • Triage and assign property claims to other adjusters as required
  • Provide payment authorization for Auto PD Representatives and Adjusters in the absence of the Manager, Claims

KEY QUALIFICATIONS / ATTRIBUTES

  • Post-Secondary Degree / Diploma in related business field
  • Minimum 4+ years claims adjusting (including external adjusting) with a property and casualty company
  • CIP Designation or working towards one
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge and experience in adjusting of property claims
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional demeanor with policyholders, brokers and service providers
  • General knowledge of the Mutual Insurance systems and construction
  • Above average skills in documentation and organization
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (Bilingualism would be an asset)
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • Experience with Agricultural claims would be an asset
  • A vehicle and valid Driver’s Licence are required
  • Willing and able to visit client sites as needed
