Donna Cona Inc. is currently seeking a Electrical Inspector, for one of our key government clients. The successful incumbent will be appointed by the Commission as an electrical inspector under the Technical Standards and Safety Act to enforce the provisions of the Act and Regulations, along with their applicable codes.

Under the direction of the Chief Electrical Inspector, the incumbent shall evaluate installations and equipment for compliance of the Act and Regulations.

In order to reduce the loss of life, injury and property damage due to electrical hazards.

Candidate MUST have the following :

• Possess an Electrical Engineering degree granted by a recognized, accredited university with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in power and distribution systems design and construction, two (2) of which are as a project manager;
• Possess a diploma from an accredited Canadian college as an Electrical Engineering Technologist with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in power and distribution systems design and construction, two (2) of which are as a project manager;
• Possess a certificate of qualification, issued by a Canadian province or territory, at the Journeyperson level along with an Interprovincial Red Seal endorsement.
• A minimum of five (5) years of construction experience in the electrical trade, after certification, and one year-experience supervising electrical installations;
• Must be eligible for certification as a Certified Electrical Inspector by the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI);
• Contextual Knowledge : Knowledge of building and electrical systems design concepts and terminology;Knowledge of electrical theory;
• Knowledge of electrical system inspection, diagnostic and evaluation techniques;Knowledge of cold climate building systems;

andKnowledge of the Nunavut Technical Standards and Safety Act and Regulations, the Canadian Electrical Code, and other applicable building and safety codes and standards.

• Skills and abilities : Skill in prosecutions and report writing;Ability to operate various tools and equipment used in duties (ie : electrical testing and measuring equipment and a digital camera);
• Ability to work with high voltage equipment and the hazards associated with working on energised equipment;Skill in investigation procedures for electrical accidents, and violations of the Technical Standards and Safety Act;
• Skilled at influencing electricians, electrical contractors and the general public to perform Safe work and observe the provisions of the Technical Standards and Safety Act through the proper use of tact, persuasion or enforcement procedures depending on the situation;
• Ability to perform duties unsupervised and to plan, schedule and implement daily, weekly and monthly schedules;Ability to co-ordinate inspection travel with contractors’ construction schedules and within the travel budget for the communities in his / her region;
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing orders, notices, notifications and instructions to owners, electricians, electrical contractors, supply authorities, consultants and other persons concerning electrical installations, equipment and designs;
• Ability to maintain spreadsheets and work with a database to log permits, defects and trends in electrical safety issues within the region;

Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, andThe ability to communicate in more than one of the official languages of Nunavut is an asset.
