Overview
We are hiring for a Senior Staffing Engineer who will lead technical governance, lifecycle stewardship and engineering standards across all static and pipeline assets. The role will provide expert technical leadership and guide decision-making throughout design, construction, operation, inspection, modification and retirement.
Responsibilities
Business Leadership – Acumen and Strategy
- Promote operating excellence and support initiatives aligned with Pembina’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS)
- Drive operational excellence projects and help establish the “Pembina Way of operating”
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Operations, Engineering and Construction leadership
- Maintain high‑quality relationships with key stakeholders, particularly operating units
- Design pipeline systems and static assets to meet or exceed environmental and regulatory requirements
Technical Leadership – Pipelines & Static Fixed Equipment
Serve as enterprise mechanical engineer for pipeline systems and fixed / static equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks and pipingProvide high‑level troubleshooting, risk evaluations, fitness‑for‑service assessments and strategic technical adviceInterpret and apply CSA Z662, CSA B51, ASME B31.3 / B31.4 / B31.8, ASME Section VIII, API 510 / 570 / 653 / 650 and other codesLead complex engineering reviews and analyses for asset repair, replacement or mitigation strategiesRepresent Pembina in industry and code committees such as ASME, API, PIPAsset Lifecycle Management (ALM)
Support enterprise understanding of long‑term degradation, risk drivers and lifecycle performancePartner with Integrity Management and Reliability teams to build inspection programs, reliability models and lifecycle strategiesProvide input into long‑range capital planning, risk‑based replacement programs and major maintenance plansParticipate in root‑cause analyses for equipment and pipeline failuresEngineering Governance & Standards Stewardship
Own and steward engineering standards, specifications and technical governance documents for static mechanical and pipeline assetsEnsure technically sound engineering practices across the enterpriseLead and support MOC reviews, risk assessments, design assessments and technical assurance processesMaintain alignment with regulatory updates and industry best practicesContinuously adapt to evolving technologies and requirements by acquiring new skills and applying innovative solutionsCollaboration, Influences & Knowledge Building
Provide technical consultation to leadership, project teams, field operations and external stakeholdersRepresent Pembina on industry committees, regulatory engagements and vendor interactionsMentor junior and intermediate engineersPromote a culture of technical excellence, sound judgment, continuous improvement and proactive risk managementDemonstrate learning agility through feedback and rapid adaptationSupport Pembina’s safety culture (“Zero by Choice”) and the Life Saving RulesParticipate in a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaceQualifications
Academic – Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree considered an assetProfessional – Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA; registrations with other Canadian and US jurisdictions considered an assetExperience – 15+ years in pipeline mechanical engineering and static / fixed equipment within pipeline, midstream, petrochemical, or refining sectorsStrong working knowledge of CSA Z662, CSA B51, ASME B31.3 & B31.4, ASME Section VIII, API 579 / 510 / 570 / 653 / 650Demonstrated experience in asset lifecycle management, engineering governance and enterprise‑level advisory rolesAbility to rapidly acquire and apply new technical skills, tools and frameworksStrong organizational skills, prioritization of competing tasks and stakeholder managementExcellent communication, influence, facilitation and leadership abilitiesStrong analytical and problem‑solving skills for complex, high‑impact technical challengesAdditional Information
