The Role

Student Affairs and Services is looking for a Coordinator for Counselling Services.

Douglas College Counsellors provide culturally sensitive individual counselling, group support, psycho-educational programming, assessment, and crisis intervention services to enrolled students presenting with personal, emotional and mental health concerns.

The team consists of faculty who support Douglas College's strategic plan goals outlined under the themes of successful students, social and environmental responsibility, responsive learning, and healthy and effective work and learning environments.

This role is a faculty Coordinator position, that reports to the Director of Student Affairs and Services

Responsibilities

Support the Counselling Services Faculty

  • Plan and deliver onboarding and orientation of new Faculty
  • Initiate and facilitate regular Faculty meetings; collect agenda items, include Responsible Administrator when appropriate, invite relevant guests, ensure distribution of minutes, track decisions made, and monitor progress of actions arising from meetings
  • Schedule case consultation meetings
  • Meet regularly with the Responsible Administrator
  • In collaboration with the Responsible Administrator, establish and monitor caseloads; access and provide caseload statistics when required
  • Collect and respond to vacation and PD requests; develop, maintain, and share up-to-date calendar ensuring delivery of services
  • Engage Faculty in conversations that identify and share opportunities and priorities for group professional development
  • Ensure all faculty committees that require Counselling Services representation are filled on an annual basis (e.g., Selection, Post-Probationary, PD)

Support Service Delivery

  • In collaboration with the Responsible Administrator, Operations Supervisor, and other partners, review and enhance services and procedures to maintain currency in the field and ensure compliance with the Douglas College SOP's and Policies.
  • In collaboration with the Responsible Administrator and Operations Supervisor, compile, review, and revise Counselling Services service-delivery guidelines and maintain repository of service resources, guidelines, and processes
  • In collaboration with the Operations Supervisor support effective communication and collaboration between the Faculty and Staff roles and responsibilities
  • Collaborate with other College departments to ensure students are receiving supports and services that meet their needs
  • Coordinate and schedule the process for quality assurance, maintenance, and updates of Titanium Support SAS Department
  • Ensure Faculty initiatives and projects reflect strategic priorities and resources across the SAS department
  • Participate in SAS departmental planning and projects
  • Advise on resource needs of the Faculty group for consideration in budget planning and management
  • Review with Responsible Administrator annual Ed Plans, to ensure Faculty perspectives and requests are represented Support Counselling Services Relationships with Internal and External Stakeholders
  • Respond to general inquiries and facilitate information sessions to members of the post-secondary community as requested
  • Support Faculty in building awareness and partnerships with relevant departmental Faculty and Faculty groups
  • Develop, deliver, and facilitate delivery of workshops for Counselling Services on relevant topics for students and colleagues To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
  • A minimum of a Master's Degree in Counselling, Social Work, or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Up-to-date knowledge and experience in the following areas :
  • Common mental health concerns, including depression and anxiety
  • Issues related to academic success, including procrastination and time management
  • Suicide assessment and threat assessment
  • Counselling people in transition across the lifespan
  • Career counselling approaches, including administering and interpreting career assessments
  • Ethical issues as they relate to counselling in a college setting
  • Experience using technology to provide virtual counselling, and a commitment to ongoing development of competency in appropriate and ethical uses of technology within a counselling setting
  • Competency counselling across cultures, including IBPOC and international students
  • Ability to identify and support students dealing with isolation factors
  • Experience supporting survivors of sexualized violence and abuse
  • An understanding and appreciation for Indigenous ways of being and knowing
  • Ability to support clients who experience racism, violence in relationships, and lateral violence
  • Understanding and experience supporting clients with career development and career counselling
  • Demonstrated ability in crisis management, intervention and problem-solving skills
  • Experience communicating with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Understanding and ability to support students with issues related to academic success
  • Interest and / or experience in public speaking, group presentations and group facilitation
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Experience in counselling at a post-secondary educational institution is an asset
  • Eligibility for certification with a Professional Association ( RCC , CCC , RCSW , RSW , or equivalent) Link to Full Position Profile Needs a Criminal Records Check Yes
