A leading real estate development and construction organization is seeking a highly experienced Assistant Controller to provide hands-on support during a critical audit and refinancing period. This is a contract opportunity for a seasoned CPA who thrives in complex, operational environments and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to stabilize day-to-day finance functions.

About the Role

Reporting into the Controller, this role will support core accounting activities during a critical audit and refinancing period, with a strong focus on execution and operational continuity. You will take on hands-on responsibilities across key accounting functions, working closely with the broader finance team to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency in reporting. This position is well-suited for an experienced professional who is comfortable stepping into complex environments and providing steady, reliable support during periods of heightened activity.

What You’ll Do

• Support external audit requirements through late Q1 / early Q2, including sample preparation, reconciliations, and analysis
• Manage trial balance oversight and consolidation across multiple business units
• Work closely with the accounting team to ensure reconciliations are current, accurate, and maintained on a consistent schedule
• Assist with process improvements to reduce audit-period bottlenecks and improve reporting discipline
• Support cash flow reporting and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency
• Provide hands-on support across accounts receivable, including driving progress on outstanding collections
• Collaborate with payroll and finance teams to improve reporting accuracy and data accessibility
• Act as a stabilizing presence during a high-demand period, ensuring continuity and responsiveness across finance operations
