WORK AREA : Central City Lodge - Recreation Department (PCN )

EFFECTIVE DATE : To be confirmed

END DATE : Return of Incumbent

HOURS : 75 Hours Bi-Weekly (1.0 FTE)

Days : 08 : 00AM - 04 : 00PM

DAYS OFF : Sundays and Mondays

SALARY : $33.28

JOB SUMMARY :

Providence Living is a newly created non-profit Catholic-sponsored health care organization focused on long-term care assisted living housing and other community services to support seniors and their family members. We are committed to re-imagining the experience of seniors especially those living with dementia and to creating communities and fostering a culture where seniors are empowered to make decisions that affect their quality of life.

Reporting to and in consultation with the Director of Resident Lifestyles and Community Programs supervise Activity Aides Visitation Assistants and volunteers. This position develops implements and evaluates recreation / leisure program(s) designed to support residents and / or clients physical cognitive and psycho-social needs in settings such as residential and / or adult day programs. Programs may include : Fitness Class ambulation reminiscing current events mental aerobics baking woodworking horticultural and other therapeutic or recreational activities. Managing administrative duties associated including client referrals and calendar development and other related functions.

JOB DUTIES :

  • Plans implements and evaluates recreation / leisure program(s) including activities such as crafts music woodworking mental aerobics exercises and sensory stimulation to meet patients / residents / clients physical social emotional intellectual and spiritual needs and interests; develops the goals and objectives of the program.
  • Supervises Activity Workers I II and / or Program Coordinators I as well as other designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments evaluating employee performance and determining related training and orientation requirements.
  • Determines the recreation / leisure program(s) which meet the patients / residents / clients needs and abilities by reviewing the referral or care plan interviewing the patient / resident / client regarding their social / leisure history and consulting with family and nursing staff; identifies evaluates implements and documents recreation / leisure goals and objectives based on individual interests and abilities.
  • Sets up a calendar of events / activity programs and teaches the techniques of related activities; contacts external agencies for program resources.
  • Monitors evaluates and documents patient / resident / client progress within the recreation / leisure program(s) and reports observations such as emotional well-being and social behaviour to nursing / medical staff as required. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings and care conferences. Identifies and makes recommendations regarding community and facility resources that may be of additional interest or need to the resident / patient / client.
  • Monitors program expenditures and provides input to the program budget; oversees inventory of equipment tools and materials and recommends purchase of same.
  • Schedules work assignments of and provides direction to designated volunteers; contacts facility administration or volunteer services for additional volunteer resources as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS : Education :

  • Graduation from a recognized Recreational Program such as diploma or degree in activity program development or Recreation therapy.
  • Three years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Valid motor vehicle license (class 4) with a recent safe driving record.
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
