Day One Society (Phoenix Centre) provides substance use services and advocacy for individuals, families and communities. We have a 20-bed inpatient detox unit, outpatient youth counselling, youth day treatment and supportive recovery programs.

Job Summary :
This requires flexibility and responsiveness. Reporting to the Detox Program Supervisor, the Detox Worker 2 (DW) is part of a multidisciplinary team, performing a variety of program related duties in support of clients in inpatient detox services within a harm reduction model. The DW needs to be capable of functioning as a team member, as well as independently. The position involves shift work consisting of 11 hour shifts (Day Shifts and Night shifts).
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
Admission and Assessment of Clients
- Screens and assesses clients for admission / non admission, entering information in the booking program as required
- Does admissions and discharges, performing all related tasks
- Performs 24-hour assessments
- Takes and records vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse and respiration
- Documents client information, including discharge summaries, accurately and in a timely fashion
- Assists in dealing with crisis situations requiring medical management / behavioural management
Client Support and Education
Delivers client education as required, including “Take Home Naloxone” educationConducts house meetings for clientsProvides recovery planning opportunities for clients supporting their right to self-determination and arranging support by the Inpatient Discharge CoordinatorOther
Makes beds and does agency laundryAssists with general cleaning of kitchen and client common areasPerforms other related duties as required and directed by the Detox Supervisor and / or her designateQualifications : Education
Minimum of 2-year diploma in social or human services from a recognized educational institute or equivalentTraining
At least 2 years training in the field of mental health and substance useCPR certificationExperience
