Job purpose

Provide financial insight that is instrumental to drive organizational objectives. The incumbent is a key point of contact for the Sun Brand business leaders and represents finance on a cross-functional team for the day-to-day activities through to strategic initiatives.

This role provides analytical support for the Sun Brand team and works closely with leaders to ensure the reporting of actual results is accurate and completed on a timely basis. Working closely with the Head of Brand and its Directors, this role analyzes actual results ensuring completeness, supports month end, quarter end and year-end close procedures and maintains high data integrity.

Duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate is a champion of internal controls and takes initiative to review policies and processes to identify opportunities for further enhancements in that area. Confident and effective interpersonal and communication skills will allow them to identify and deliver relevant information incorporating actual financial and reporting information. As a subject matter expert, the SFA must be able to present information accurately and concisely, be attentive to detail, work independently on time sensitive tasks and have strong analytical skills.

  • Act as liaison with head of Brand, brand portfolio heads, and Finance in reviewing financial results and providing value added analysis and financial support to the Sun Brand business.
  • Weekly analysis and insight of revenue trends. On the subject of sales, from the finance side, you will be responsible for gross to net sales down to net margin within the Sun Brand portfolio.
  • Analyze and prepare reporting including, but not limited to, analysis of variances, preparing account reconciliations on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis supported by appropriate documentation and audit trail, posting of required journal entries.
  • Support key business partners with profitability analysis, expense tracking, and variance analysis. Provide decision support to help grow and improve profitability. Identify and communicate business risks and opportunities in business development opportunities.
  • Participate in the quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting processes, working closely with department heads to ensure alignment with overall business goals. Support periodic scenario planning for ongoing Brand business.
  • Review of sales agreements and expenditures to ensure eligibility, proper authorization, and that the supporting documentation are in line with Budget and Sun policies and guidelines, and recorded by Sun Shared service team per applicable accounting standards.
  • Proactively engage as a valued business partner in ad hoc projects as required, including participation in initiatives impacting pretax profit and support other Sun Canada planning initiatives as required.
  • Recommend new processes and procedures that utilize technology, build efficiencies, and streamline workflows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting & / or Finance and working towards or completed Professional Accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive financial experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a detail-oriented environment and possess the desire to learn new and challenging skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access including financial modelling or other relevant financial modeling tools. Should be knowledgeable in Word and power point.
  • Good communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Technical and financial knowledge including, internal control requirements and accounting principles as well as understanding of relevant business environment.
  • Good analytical skills with familiarity with accounting, financial analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • SAP ERP system experience is an asset
  • Financial planning experience is an asset
  • Management cost accounting experience is an asset
