Hours : 37.5 Hours per week

Salary : $97,500 - $125,000 per annum. Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy

Status : Permanent Full-Time

Shift : 07 : 00 to 15 : 00 (Mon to Fri)

Position Summary

The Facilities Operations Manager is a key member of the Facilities team at UHN. The successful candidate will lead the Facilities Operations team and function at the Toronto General Hospital to ensure high quality of service provided.

Duties

  • Administering, planning, managing, directing and controlling the activities and quality of service of the Facilities Operations department;
  • Maintaining responsibility for the operation of major base building systems (e.g., boilers, chillers, electrical power distribution systems, bed / stretcher repairs, water treatment, HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, elevators, etc.) on a 7 / 24 basis;
  • Maintaining responsibility for the efficient use of all utilities purchased by the organization and for the quality of service provided by this section;
  • Maintaining responsibility for the training and development of staff;
  • Ensuring quality and continuous improvement of plant operations services and activities at all UHN sites;
  • Managing departmental finances / budget;
  • Participating in corporate meetings, initiatives and programs;
  • Establish and implement schedules for the completion of preventative and routine maintenance utilizing appropriate systems;
  • Developing annual and long-range maintenance plans to meet departmental and Hospital goals, staffing changes and process improvements;
  • Performs all duties in compliance with all codes, standards, regulations, and legislation.

Qualifications

A minimum completion of a community college diploma program in Building Operations, Relevant Trade (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical Engineer or Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist, etc.

or recognized equivalent required.

  • Canadian Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CCHFM) designation;
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) designation;
  • Facilities Management Administrator / Real Property Administrator (FMA / RPA);
  • Registered member is good standing with applicable processional affiliation / membership;
  • Minimum eight (8) years experience in facility operations with at least two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Computer literacy required, including experience with building automation systems
  • Excellent organizational planning, time management, interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills required;
  • Ability to read and write English and to interpret basic mechanical, electrical and structural drawings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards, Hospital policies and procedures (including internal "Codes"), financial control principles, hazardous and biomedical waste procedures and WHMIS and OHS regulations;
  • Ability to implement sustainable, beneficial change;
  • Knowledge of collective agreements and managing a unionized labour force required;
  • Excellent management and leadership skills required;
  • Detail orientation and initiative required;
  • Hospital experience preferred.
