What you’ll be accountable for :
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of drafting and design professionals
- Set clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and support performance management
- Build training plans and growth pathways to strengthen technical depth and consistency
- Drive accountability and collaboration through daily leadership and “coaching in the moment”
Delivery & Quality
Provide direction, planning, and execution for all CAD / drafting / documentation deliverablesEnsure outputs meet applicable codes / standards, customer requirements, and internal quality expectationsMaintain strong revision control, drawing discipline, and “right-first-time” deliverablesCapacity, Scheduling & Cross-Functional Alignment
Forecast workload and resource requirements; manage schedules, priorities, and assignmentsParticipate in S&OP and translate demand signals into manpower and planningCommunicate risks, constraints, and recommendations early and clearlyCoordinate internal and external drafting resources (as needed)Own CAD / PDM governance, procedures, templates, libraries, and drawing standardsTrack KPIs including on-time delivery, cycle time, rework / defects, and SLA adherenceUse data and root-cause thinking to reduce rework, improve throughput, and strengthen standard workQualifications
Education & Experience
Post-secondary education in Drafting / Design Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)5+ years progressive drafting / design documentation experience in industrial manufacturingPeople leadership experience strongly preferred (formal leader or lead / acting capacity)Technical Skills
Strong 3D modelling and 2D detailing knowledge for fabrication and assembly documentationAutodesk Inventor and / or SolidWorks preferredPDM / PLM and revision control experience is an assetUnderstanding of weld symbols and technical documentation standardsFamiliarity with ASME, ASTM, TEMA, API standards is an assetLeadership & Communication
Comfortable with performance management, coaching, and difficult conversationsStrong stakeholder management across Engineering, Projects, Procurement, and ProductionExcellent written and verbal communication skills with a practical, solutions-first approachPrimarily office-based with regular time in the manufacturing environment (PPE required)Occasional travel may be required for training or business needsWhy this role matters
