About the Role
As a STEM Education Camp Instructor, you will share your knowledge and passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with children and youth. Under the supervision of the STEM Education Supervisor, you will deliver lessons and lead campers through activities such as crafts, sports, and games. Additional responsibilities include completing required administrative duties and maintaining positive relationships with staff, campers, and parents. You will collaborate closely with Camp Leaders and Volunteers.
Position Details
- Contracts: Casual, ending 8/28/2026
- Hours: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday
- Duration: 9 weeks (June 29 – August 28, 2026) plus orientation (June 22‑26)
- Full-time equivalent: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
- Location: MRU Main Campus, Calgary
- Salary: $18.00 per hour
Pre‑Employment Requirements
- Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (valid within 1 year)
- Standard First Aid (valid within 2 years) and CPR Level C (valid within 1 year)
- Certificate of eligibility to work in Canada (citizenship, permanent residency, or other legal status)
Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and modify program lessons and activities.
- Ensure safety, well‑being, and enjoyment of campers aged 4‑15.
- Accommodate campers with varying learning needs.
- Collaborate with co‑leaders and instructors to deliver daily programs.
- Assist Camp Leaders with recreational and classroom activities.
- Supervise and coordinate lunchtime, before‑ and after‑care.
- Perform administrative tasks: camper registration, incident reports, attendance.
- Attend staff orientation and required staff meetings.
- Communicate professionally with parents and guardians about their child’s experience.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a childcare/educational setting with lesson plans and curriculum delivery.
- Experience or volunteering in camp or recreational activities is an asset.
- Experience with curriculum design and implementation is an asset.
- Team‑player with strong independent working skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and/or coaching/teaching.
- Availability for 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, June 29 – August 28, 2026.
- Availability for mandatory staff training June 22‑26, 2026.
