Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a Junior Resource Planning Engineer to work on a 6-month contract for one of BC'
s largest utility and energy companies.
Location : Burnaby, BC Hybrid
Overview : The successful candidate will perform modelling studies for IPP ratchet clause, deemed claims, and generation planning in general.
Responsibilities :
- Contribute to the development of safe engineering solutions by conducting limited-scope studies and applying prescribed methods and techniques to solve problems for projects and operations.
- Assist with specific aspects of complex engineering activities by adhering to prescribed analysis, design, and computation methods, working under close supervision of a senior professional engineer who reviews work for accuracy and compliance with established procedures.
- Participate in the engineering practice by using initiative and judgment to make routine technical decisions while applying standards and following detailed instructions to maintain engineering quality.
- Independently perform periodic tasks, which may include on-site construction quality control and monitoring to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Ensure adherence to relevant professional practice management plans, applying the necessary permits for work that is sealed by a registered engineer.
Retain and preserve all project documentation produced during the contract to satisfy applicable bylaws. Requirements :
Must-Haves :
- A minimum two (2) years of in a relevant engineering field or equivalent
- University graduate in applied science or engineering
- Registered Engineer-in-Training or Geoscientist-in-Training with Engineers & Geoscientists BC or another jurisdiction and / or eligible for registration as such with Engineers & Geoscientists BC
- Proficient in statistical analysis to validate data.
- Experience with simulation or optimization techniques, including linear programming and mixed integer programming, preferably in Python, AMPL, Julia, or C++, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong analytical skills in evaluating hydropower systems, generating projects, bulk electric system requirements, regulatory compliance, and energy market dynamics. Nice-to-Haves :
- Ability to write and review engineering memos and reports.
- Experience in analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating technical studies and reports to develop innovative analytical methods for complex resource planning challenges.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective presentations and collaboration.
- Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and self-regulation while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
