Sterling Crane is looking to fill the position of HSE Advisor for our Kearl Lake Oil Sands site, North or Fort McMurray. This is a full-time salaried position reporting to the Regional Director.
The HSE Advisor will work closely with our Operations Manager, Supervisors, and operations personnel to meet or exceed AB OH&S, our Client’s and Sterling Crane’s HSE expectations.
Responsibilities :
- Carries out duties as may be required by the Imperial Oil and Sterling HSE requirements such as workplace investigations and audits.
- Liaises with health and safety regulatory authorities and Customers.
- Manage and monitor operator safety training.
- Maintain and audit safety inventory (fire extinguishers, fall protection, PPE).
- Trains employees on best practices that will ensure safety while carrying out day to day work schedules.
- Ensures that where necessary changes occur in the organization’s work practices if such changes will lead to a marked reduction in the likelihood of avoidable events occurring.
Qualifications & Skills :
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- 5 + year’s experience with heavy construction & heavy equipment in Upgrading / Refinery Plants & open pit mining.
- Preferred candidates will have an OH&S Certificate, a CRSP, NCSO or related designation in addition to field experience in a safety related role.
- Knowledge on the Alberta OHS Act, regulation, and codes.
- Tap Root incident investigations training DNV SCAT chart training.
- Previous experience conducting orientations.
- Proficient in Job Hazard Assessment review and development.
- Class 5 Driver’s license.
- Strong Communication & interpersonal skills.
- Computer literate in excel, word, power point.
- The selected individual will have a passion for safety, excellent mentoring skills and be a catalyst for change.
- Time management skills and high attention to detail.
- Maintain accurate records and tracking of required certs and safety equipment needs.
- Other duties as required.
