The Infrastructure Technical Specialist(INTS) is a senior level resource with specialized knowledge andexperience in specific technologies.

GENERALSUMMARY

The SystemsEngineers role is to design install administer and optimize serversand related components to achieve high performance of the variousbusiness applications supported by City of Cedar Rapids.

Thisincludes local remote and cloudbased solutions ensuring theavailability of applications configuring new implementations anddeveloping processes and procedures for ongoing management of theserver environment.

Where applicable the Systems Engineer willassist in overseeing the physical security integrity and safety ofthe data center / server environment.

The Systems Engineer plays a key role in providingcreative dynamic solutions for a variety of needs at the City ofCedar Rapids.

The city maintains a highly available environmentrequiring coordination with local departments and providingcritical services.

As a customercentric Division of the City ITstaff must display the highest levels of professionalism teamworkand flexibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with IT City management and leaders to assessnear and longterm virtualization capacity needs with financiallysound solutions.
• Develop strategies forservice implementations; architect the infrastructure required tosupport those strategies.
• Act as project leadin the design and review of new services applications and hardware;conduct capacity planning as needed.
• Leadcoordinate and participate in key process improvements as theyrelate to the server environment.
• Coordinateand collaborate with network engineering business application anddatabase administration function to ensure availability reliabilityand scalability of servers and cloud services to meet businessdemands.
• Collaborate on and implement policiesprocedures and technologies to ensure services security andcompliance.
• Develop implement and maintainpolicies procedures and associated training plans for systemsadministration usage and disaster recovery.
• Check the service desk database for Incidents and ServiceRequests; prioritize and respond to tickets as appropriate andwithin stated SLAs.
• Serve as cornerstone forescalating server issues; provide timely response to customerescalations.
• Define and document best practiceprocedures for implementation and maintenance of theenvironment.
• Perform file system configurationand management; define and perform server backups and recoveryprocedures.
• Plan and implement strategies forDisaster recovery and Business continuity solutions within theenvironment.
• Plan and implement serverupgrades software upgrades maintenance fixes and vendorsuppliedpatches and coordinate those efforts with System Engineer andapplications team.
• Provide Web administrationsupport by overseeing and maintaining Web server functions such asassuring logging and metrics data are stable.
• Monitor and test system performance and provideperformance statistics and reports.
• Staycurrent on security related trends and make recommendations basedon research.
• Create shell scripts asrequired.
• Manage enterprise directory servicesand supporting server infrastructure.
• Manageall cloudbased backoffice services and provide integration supportfor all other cloudbased services.
• Define andimplement strategies for integrating disparate operatingenvironments.
• Recommend and executemodifications to server environment to improve efficiencyreliability and performance.
• Develop andserver documentation and maintain training materials.
• Manage and / or provide guidance to junior members of theteam.
• Perform services and security audits andbackups and recovery.

MINIMUM ENTRANCEQUALIFICATIONS

University degree incomputer science or related files and / or 5 7 years equivalentwork experience.

Microsoft CertifiedProfessional or higher

VMwareCertifications

COMPETENCIES FORSUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Knowledge of :

• At least fiveyears equivalent work experience in a senior technical analyticalposition responsible for managing server environments.
• Moderate to advanced knowledge of VMware.
• Experience implementing a new ESX cluster migratingclusters decommissioning hosts updating VMware tools and building anew vCenter.
• Troubleshooting ESX issuesrelated to storage network and performance issues.
• Advanced knowledge of the following : Windows ServerActive Directory RedHat SharePoint and MS Teams.
• Moderate to advanced knowledge of the followingTechnologies including Pure Storage Nimble Storage and DellServers.
• Not required but beneficial iffamiliar with; VEEAM.
• Experience installingconfiguring and maintaining all manners of server hardware andassociated network equipment including SCSI RAID and I / Otopology.
• Experience with server performancetuning and monitoring tools.
• Excellenthardware troubleshooting experience.
• Abilityto follow the Citys change management policy.
• Ability to work tickets through the Citys service deskticketing system with detail.
• Workingtechnical knowledge of scripting code using VBScript Command ShellPowerShell or related tools.
• Goodunderstanding of the organizations goals and objectives.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices andlaws.
