Overview
As a member of the military, Construction Engineers provide engineering support, such as facilities management, fire engineering, contract and project management, and construction and environmental engineering.
As members of the Military Engineer Branch, Construction Engineers plan, develop, and implement projects involving a wide range of military engineering tasks. Their primary responsibilities are to :
Work environment
Construction Engineers work as part of a Construction Engineering Flight or Unit. While primarily supporting the Royal Canadian Air Force, they may also support Canadian Army operations and missions. They may be posted to CAF bases or headquarters and could be deployed domestically or internationally, including UN, NATO, or Coalition missions.
If you join the Regular Force, after training, you will be assigned to a base, with potential relocations. If you join the Primary Reserve Force, you will serve part-time at a Reserve unit, typically working one night per week and some weekends, with opportunities for full-time employment.
Entry plans
If you have a university degree, the CAF may place you directly into on-the-job training following basic training. Basic officer training and military officer qualification training are required before assignment.
Training
Training includes 12 weeks of basic officer training at Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School, followed by language training if needed, then specialized training at the Infantry School and the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown, NB. You will learn leadership, engineering tasks, and project management skills relevant to military engineering operations.
Part-time options
This role is available for part-time employment with the Primary Reserve at various locations across Canada. Reserve members serve part-time at their local units, with opportunities for deployment and full-time service, paid at 92.8% of Regular Force rates.
