Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our clients team in Ottawa, Ontario. In this role, you will oversee financial operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and providing strategic financial insights to support organizational goals. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of accounting practices, managing internal controls, and delivering accurate reporting across multiple locations.

Responsibilities:

• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes to support financial planning and organizational goals.

• Manage payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations.

• Oversee compliance with Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements and financial laws.

• Perform cash flow management to maintain the financial health of the organization.

• Reconcile general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.

• Ensure proper handling of preneed insurance and trust funds in line with provincial regulations.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather, analyze, and verify financial data.

• Support operational reporting and develop dashboards to provide insights for decision-making.

• Supervise and mentor finance team members to foster a positive and productive work environment.

Qualifications:

• Canadian CPA designation or latter stages of obtaining your CPA.

• 5+ years experience ideally with technical accounting expertise from a public accounting firm.

• Proficiency in account reconciliation, general ledger management, and journal entries.

• Expertise in financial software such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, and advanced Microsoft Excel.

• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate financial concepts effectively to non-financial stakeholders.

• High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.

• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, operational directors and location leaders.

• Demonstrated experience in month-end close processes and financial reporting.

This is a new role in a very old, well established business. There is an opportunity to prove yourself, grow and become their Controller. This is a hands on role where 'it's not my job' can't be in any discussion. You will oversee two clerks and work alongside a Sr. Administrator. This is a fully on site role with free parking.
