Piikani Child and Family Services- Family Support Worker (Prevention)

Job Description

Piikani Child and Family Services is seeking a Family Support Worker to join the Prevention department. The Family Support Worker plays a crucial role in supporting and strengthening families within the community.

This position is focused on delivering culturally sensitive services to prevent child welfare issues and enhance the overall well-being of Piikani families.

The role requires cultural sensitivity, strong interpersonal skills, reliability and a commitment to preserving Piikani traditions and values while addressing family needs and challenges.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

This is a full-time, one-year contract position with the possibility of an extension based on performance evaluation and funding availability.

Hours of work will be 8am-4pm Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends may be required. This job will work mainly from our Brocket office, some travelling will be required.

The hourly wage of this position will be $25. A benefits package will be provided after a successful probation period.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Establish trusting and supportive relationships with families in need of assistance.
• Advocate for the rights and needs of families within the context of Piikani cultural values and customs.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of family needs and strengths to develop individualized service plans.
• Monitor and regularly review case progress and adapt plans as necessary.
• Incorporate Piikani cultural practices, traditions, and values into service delivery.
• Collaborate with elders and traditional knowledge keepers to provide culturally appropriate support.
• Offer guidance and resources to parents to enhance their parenting skills and promote child safety and well-being.
• Facilitate and / or support parenting workshops and support groups.
• Connect families with relevant community resources and services, both on and off reserve.
• Collaborate with other professionals, agencies, and community organizations to provide holistic support.
• Develop and implement prevention programs and initiatives aimed at reducing child welfare issues within the community.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case records, reports, and documentation in compliance with agency policies and regulations.
• Provide regular reports to supervisors and attend team meetings.
• Respond to crisis situations involving families, ensuring child safety and adherence to intervention protocols.
• Participate in community events and activities to build rapport and trust.
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS :

• A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
• Knowledge of Piikani culture, traditions, and the specific needs of the community.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build rapport and trust with families.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Understanding of child welfare regulations and policies.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Current CPR, Infant CPR, and First Aid Certification.
• Evenings and weekend availability.
• Clean Criminal and Child Intervention records check.
• Expected to maintain strict confidentiality
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Valid Driver’s License (preferably Class 4) and Driver’s abstract.
