Quality Control Lab Technician

Responsibilities
Summary Statement
Under the supervision of the Lab / Regulatory Affairs Supervisor, this position is responsible to maintain quality standards by approving manufactured products prior to shipping, assisting laboratory technicians in project creation / completion, sample formulation and packaging.
In addition, the individual will interact with customers to ensure optimal satisfaction of products.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists lab, utilizing formulas to create customer samples customers and reports any inconsistencies, malfunctions or variations of samples,
- Performs routine testing and approval of all raw materials, semi-finished and finished products,
- Performs quality control testing of outgoing material to customers,
- Packages prepared samples for shipment and coordinates with various shipping companies to schedule shipment pickup.
- Ensures customers are made aware shipment is on route. Generates / verifies COA's as necessary,
- Maintains electronic and paper records by entering formulas, customers and projects
- Manufactures customer orders.
- Monitors and stocks library, ensure raw materials, flavors and fragrances, Maintains lab cleanliness and correctly stores tools / equipment,
- Responds to email inquiries from clients, potential customers, and employees,
- Attends meetings as required
- Monitors manufacturing schedule to identify any missing materials that will be needed for retention purposes
- Maintains cleanliness of the lab by washing all lab glassware, e.g. stir bars, beakers, jars, etc.
- Receives all raw materials from suppliers and ensures the correct item, quantity, serial number, bar code and has proper corresponding documentation, weekly.
- Orders all lab supplies, e.g. pipettes, stir bars, vials, gloves, etc.
- Responsible for calibrating all lab equipment, e.g. Density Meter, Thermometers and Refractometer, monthly.
- Assists in ensuring all applicable HACCP documentation is completed
- Responsible for ordering shipping supplies for project desk, e.g. boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc.,
- Conducts an Exterior Good Manufacturing Practices walkthrough of the building, monthly.
- Provides general back up to Administration department including taking calls, sending documents, and photocopying.
- Attends and participates in weekly meetings, assists with special projects as needed,
- Maintains an efficient, organized file and record management system both for electronic and paper correspondence and documents.
Qualifications
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education and Experience
- Post-Secondary education (College Diploma or University Degree) in Chemistry related background
- Experience working in a lab-related setting is preferred
- Experience in implementing and utilizing measurement systems analysis, statistical process control, process capability, and other quality techniques and certifications including HACCP is an asset
- Experience using Apple-based computer programs and Microsoft programs such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.

- Proficiency in other languages is an asset.
- Physical Effort : Lifting (Approximately 25 lbs) and bending may be required during shipment collection.
- Eye-hand coordination during sample formulation and quality control testing.
- Mental Effort : High attention to detail at all times.
- Concentration and attention to detail are required for such tasks as quality control testing, sample formulation and packaging of completed products.
