Field Service Technician
Reporting to the Field Service Manager, the Field Service Technician will be responsible for the hands-on day to day installation, maintenance, repair, and modifications of current and new wireless data network infrastructure in TERAGO.
You will be expected to ensure that customers are serviced in a timely, accurate and professional manner and be an ambassadors of the TERAGO brand every time you head out in one of our trucks on a call.
Responsibilities
- Conduct accurate and timely lines of sight and scope of work options for network expansions and new customer installations.
- Complete install activities for network expansions and new customers.
- Complete out orders of network and customer equipment.
- Complete test and turn-up activities including completion of as-built drawings and archiving of test results.
- Provide on-site / remote technical support, troubleshooting and technical problem resolution when field problems occur.
- Work closely with customers to develop a thorough understanding of customer installations and applications.
- Work with internal teams to implement solutions to problems.
- Investigate, analyze and repair network failures as required, and work with internal teams to develop and implement solutions to problems.
- Ensure site quality standards are met including regular preventative maintenance programs and maintaining up-to-date and complete site records and service log books.
- Achieve field service objectives such as due date performance, response time, clearing time, customer satisfaction, cost, service, network performance and safety.
- Be part of the On-Call rotation and provide on-call and after-hours emergency technical assistance.
- Maintain a high level of technical knowledge.
- Provide timely and accurate asset tracking information and update daily timesheets.
- Complete hub and pop maintenance in accordance to TERAGO's Maintenance program.
- Complete day-to-day work following TERAGO's health and safety policy.
Skills & Knowledge
- Experience interfacing directly with customers in an operations capacity.
- Willing and able to learn new technologies, standards and alternative methods and procedures.
- Solid knowledge of LAN / WAN networking and wireless technologies is essential.
- Good knowledge of RF propagation theory and radio communications principles.
- Knowledge of basic IP Networking such as DHCP, IPV4 and VLAN’s.
- Strong understanding of construction principles, practices and requirements.
- Fundamental knowledge of electrical principles including grounding, AC / DC power systems and battery management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with tools and able to lift to up to 50lbs.
- Displays excellent customer relationship and service skills.
- A valid driver’s license in good standing is required.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.
- Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and command line interface would be considered an asset.
- Comfortable with working at heights and climbing ladders.
- Knowledge of fiber termination would be considered an asset
- Ability to work on all types of weather conditions.
- Must have valid Driver’s License and be able to drive long distances.
Education & Experience
- College level diploma and / or relevant trade qualification and / or relevant work experience.
- 2 years experience in supporting field operations.
