Salary Range: $31.56- $33.28

Location: Clubhouse, Vancouver, BC

Schedule: Monday - Sunday 9:30am to 5:30pm

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Young Adults Program Manager, the Youth Worker position will be working with low barrier Young Adults age 19 to 32. The position ensures the implementation and facilitation of the program, including, leisure activities, community kitchen, and community outings, cooking, and supporting therapeutic programs. The position is also responsible for case management and establishing trust and non-judgemental rapport with clients. Working the client, therapeutic and community supports, the Youth Worker identifies the needs and goals of the individual young adult including social, educational and vocational objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support recovery plans, teach and model life skills and strategies necessary for self-care.
  • Provide the support and information necessary to help clients build self-esteem and develop decision-making skills.
  • Assists clients to identify and gain access to formal and informal community supports such as leisure, vocational, and educational services through active community integration.
  • Advocates for and with the clients to encourage them to maintain their rights and dignity.
  • Develop and lead Wellness-Awareness Programs. Maintain accurate logs and compile statistical records to support program needs and inform ongoing program development and evaluation.
  • Performs administrative tasks, as assigned.
  • As required, liaise and advocate for the best interests of the young adult Build and maintain a network of positive working relationships with other service providers to ensure effective referrals and a good continuum of service for aging out adults.
  • Uses formal and informal assessment practices such as interviews to develop individual plans identifying the client’s areas of interest and need.
  • Actively assist in the ongoing development and review of program and monthly calendar of events.
  • Positively address all concerns, incidents or crises, which affect program mandate. Reports and addresses health and safety issues/concerns as they arise.
  • Fulfil any other functions/duties, as required, to ensure the safe, healthy and productive operation of the program.
  • May be asked to direct students, peer clients and volunteers.

Job Qualifications:

Diploma in Community Social Service Certificate, First Aid + CPR, WHMIS and FoodSafe

Recent, related experience of two years or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work.

Knowledge of community and psychiatric resources and services. A Criminal record clearance through the Ministry of Justice required if hired

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of mental health recovery principles and trauma informed care;
  • Ability to engage clients;
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients and their supports;
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population;.
  • Experience with street entrenched youth and Young Adults, including working with people facing multiple barriers and homelessness
  • Understand the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of community resources and programs;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize;
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve;
  • Good motivational skills.
  • Ability to model, instruct and demonstrate life skills;
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients;
  • Ability to work independently; and in cooperation with others
  • Ability to promote positive change and independence;
  • Conflict resolution, risk assessment and crisis intervention skills;
  • Physical and mental ability to carry out the duties of the position;
  • Ability to manage group settings with dynamic, high intensity mental health and addiction challenges
