The Opportunity
The Emissions Management and Compliance Unit within the Climate Resilience Branch is seeking a Professional Engineer dedicated to service excellence and collaboration as a Senior Emissions Engineer .
The unit provides regulatory oversight for the Provincial Output Based Performance Standards (OBPS) Program. The OBPS Program is designed to incent growth, operational efficiencies and technology innovation to reduce greenhouse gas emission intensities while protecting industrial economic competitiveness.
Reporting to the Manager of Approvals and Compliance, this position is responsible for :
- Completing analytical, scientific and technical calculations of greenhouse gas emission intensities.
- Reviewing OBPS registrations, baseline emission intensities, emission returns, quantification methodologies and verification reports from a wide variety of industrial sectors.
- Communicating and working collaboratively with a broad range of internal and external clients and stakeholders.
- Contributing to and supporting the implementation of operational efficiencies for the OBPS.
- Performing research, analysis, development and implementation of other strategic policies and programs related to greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in Saskatchewan.
Ideal Candidate
As our ideal candidate, you will have :
- Expert knowledge of engineering principles, applications, and quantification methodologies related to greenhouse gas emission intensity calculations.
- Knowledge of measurement, reporting and verification of GHG emissions under ISO 14064-3.
- Knowledge of operations and processes from emission-intensive trade-exposed (EITE) sectors in Saskatchewan.
- A strong understanding of GHG and related environmental legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures and their application.
- Ability to explain technical and nontechnical information, both in writing and verbally, to a variety of stakeholders with varying levels of understanding.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and timelines.
Candidates must be a registered professional engineer within their jurisdiction and eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to be successful in this position would be obtained through :
- A degree in engineering, supplemented with a strong foundation in measuring, quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas emission intensities.
- 5+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
