Your Role in Supporting Our Community:

As a Managing Director, Living Wage BC, you will lead the strategic and operational direction of Living Wage BC, overseeing budgeting, fundraising, governance, staffing, and stakeholder engagement. You will manage the annual Living Wage calculations and research publications, advocate for public policy change, and maintain strong relationships with certified Living Wage Employers across the province. We’re seeking a visionary leader with a passion for economic justice and the ability to build coalitions and drive systemic change.

This is a Full‑time, Permanent role with hybrid/remote working arrangements, with the ability to work out of VCF offices at 312 Main as needed. The position requires on‑site presence at the office for team meetings and some travel across British Columbia. The role reports directly to the Director, Solidarity Economy.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Managing and overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of Living Wage BC including budget, fundraising, governance, and staffing
  • Leading the annual Living Wage calculations and coordinating research reports on key issues
  • Developing frameworks and partnerships with calculation partners and stakeholders
  • Creating and executing public policy advocacy strategies with unions and progressive organizations
  • Meeting with provincial and municipal decision‑makers including councillors, ministers, and civil servants
  • Managing the Living Wage certification program and enhancing employer engagement processes
  • Maintaining strong relationships with hundreds of business leaders across BC
  • Acting as a media spokesperson and overseeing communications strategy and content
  • Building public awareness around economic inequality, poverty, and low‑wage working conditions
  • Collaborating with internal and external partners to advance Living Wage BC’s mission

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, social sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and lived or professional experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, advocacy, or campaign management
  • Proven experience in budgeting, fundraising, and governance
  • Strong understanding of economic justice, poverty reduction, and wage policy
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Excellent communication and media engagement skills

Extra Skills That Set You Apart:

  • Experience working with unions or progressive policy organizations
  • Experience working with small business owners or HR professionals
  • Familiarity with BC’s political landscape and municipal/provincial policy processes
  • Advanced degree in public administration, economics, or related discipline

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Strategic – Able to see the big picture and align operations with long‑term goals
  • Collaborative – Skilled at building partnerships and working across sectors
  • Impact‑driven – Motivated by creating systemic change and improving lives
  • Communicative – Comfortable speaking publicly and engaging with media
  • Inclusive – Committed to equity, diversity, and community empowerment

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don’t perfectly align with those listed.

What You’ll Earn:

This role offers a salary range of $102,200 to $120,200 annually. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
