Cam Tran is an ISO‑9001 certified company specializing in manufacturing, repair, and renewal of all types of oil‑filled distribution transformers. In 2024, CMI acquired Cam Tran, creating one of the largest distribution transformer manufacturing operations on the continent. Together, the combined company employs around twelve hundred people across twelve facilities. CMI and Cam Tran operate under separate brands while leveraging combined capacity to support product demand.
Job Summary
Lead the Quality Assurance function to ensure all products, processes, and systems meet customer, regulatory, and industry requirements. Design and supervise implementation of the corporate Quality Management System (QMS), drive continuous improvement, lead problem‑solving initiatives, and collaborate with quality engineers and specialists across multiple sites to achieve zero‑defect manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Assist and support Test Technicians with daily transformer testing / inspections and monitoring activities.
- Review test reports and guide technicians as required.
- Train technicians on using transformer test equipment and analyzing test reports.
- Develop and upgrade the test equipment footprint based on capacity and capability.
- Develop test plans and type tests, and conduct tests with the Engineering Team.
- Liaise with Operations and support communication of quality control issues.
- Participate in weekly huddles, LOS, financial reviews, and monthly QMR.
- Enforce Cam Tran safety policies and procedures.
- Support NCR creation and implementation of corrective actions.
- Perform transformer failure teardowns and root cause analysis for in‑house failures and warranty returns.
- Support and participate in departmental quality initiatives assigned by senior leaders.
Quality Management Systems (QMS)
Maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and customer‑specific requirements compliance.Assist in internal and external audits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.Prepare and update policies, procedures, SOPs, work instructions, FMEA, and control plans.Manage QMS document information, ensuring latest revisions and approvals.Product & Process Quality
Support engineering during new product launches and engineering changes.Monitor processes, calibration, and measurement devices, providing data for process capability.Partner with operations / production to enforce process controls.Conduct process audits and shop floor quality controls.Maintain calibration records of measurement equipment.Validate first article and sample approvals (FAI).Technical Supports
Type tests.Test equipment.Electrical, mechanical, and paint standards.Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
Lead 8D, 5‑Why, Fishbone (Ishikawa), and other structured problem‑solving methods.Support CAPA to eliminate root causes.Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on Lean and Six Sigma initiatives.Review and audit issued NCRs for effective resolution.Customer & Supplier Quality
Act as key contact for customer and supplier quality issues.Promote a customer‑first culture across all sites.Represent the company in customer visits, reviews, and negotiations.Manage supplier quality performance, incoming inspection standards, and development.Track and report customer PPM and supplier PPM metrics and scorecards.Documentation, Data Analytics, & Reporting
Lead quality performance reports : scrap, rework, defect trends, KPI dashboards, and all quality metrics.Manage data gathering and analysis to support CI initiatives and QMS monitoring.Continuous Improvement
Lead initiatives to reduce scrap, rework, and PPM levels.Champion Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma projects within quality and operations.Implement best practices and lessons learned across production lines.Requirements
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Degree required if you have experience working in a transformer environment.Electrical Engineering Degree required if you have experience in automotive or aerospace manufacturing.Minimum 10 years of manufacturing experience in transformer, automotive, or aerospace fields.Minimum 5 years in QMS development and audit experience.ISO 9000 / IATF / QMS Lead / Internal Auditor certification.Technical knowledge of transformers – type tests and test equipment preferred.Strong knowledge of regulatory (IEEE / CSA & ANSI) and customer specifications.Root cause analysis expertise (8D, 5‑Why, Ishikawa), SPC, process capability studies required.Travel required in the US and Canada to meet business needs.Certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt, CQA / CQE, or industry‑specific certifications.Leadership ability to act as facilitator and trainer on the floor.Experience with Lean concepts is an asset.Benefits
