Chief Development Officer / Executive Director Operations

As a fundamental complement to our founding CEO, you'll be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the successful development of projects as well as leadership in operational components of the business.

You will set and deliver on high standards of project delivery and execution, financial management, and team development as well as provide executive oversight of all areas of internal operations of the company, including scaling operations within identified markets and contract management.

Your strong management experience will be critical in successfully delivering transformational projects and driving innovation and collaboration across multiple aspects of the business and housing sector.

You'll work closely with our team, providing leadership and guidance to staff as we continue to grow and scale, guiding company expansion into our next and future growth phases in the marketplace.

You will know how to establish appropriate KPIs and OKRs, measure the organization’s performance against them, and push for continuous improvement.

As a seasoned executive leader, you will contribute to the Company’s strategic direction along with the CEO and other senior managers.

You will plan and oversee annual operating budgets and forecasts to enable the achievement of strategic goals within the established parameters.

You will determine how best to utilize the latest technological tools and methods to enable data analysis and forecasting that ground the company’s strategy and ensure we remain ahead of industry trends and developments.

Chief Development Officer / Executive Director Operations Duties :

The CDO / EDO is responsible for high performing project leadership and delivery, and leadership of operations to ensure the company’s success, growth and performance.

This role is responsible for the hands-on implementation of corporate goals into the workforce and business operations and policies in all spheres of the company to ensure its overall success.

In the quest to implement the vision and goals outlined in the Strategic Plan as established with the CEO, the CDO / EDO will use effective metrics and measure the performance and efficiency of employees and operations.

The CDO / EDO will play a significant role in human resources decisions and managing detailed financials. This role is a key succession role for the company, ideally succeeding into the CEO role while simultaneously mentoring and raising other key leaders within the company for their own succession.

Our CDO / EDO reports to the CEO, leading the executive group and overseeing employees. While the CDO / EDO duties may change each day based on their organization's needs, some of their main responsibilities include :

Assessing Employee Performance : the CDO / EDO establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the performance of their employees and track progress.

This helps them meet the CEO's business goals, improve productivity, and develop effective training programs.

  • Providing Guidance to Managers : the CDO / EDO leads by example and sets the tone for the company's management style. They work closely with department managers to help them manage and motivate their teams.
  • Maintaining Financial Budget : CDO / EDO is responsible for establishing their company's budget based on the business strategy and long-term goals provided by the CEO.

Oversee the finances of the entire organization.

  • Project Delivery Through Completion : the CDO / EDO is responsible for all projects in the development and construction phases (200 / 300 level) to be delivered through completion with interface with the CEO at the early concept and priority setting level when viability is being established.
  • Implementing the Business Strategy : the CDO / EDO uses the business strategy and long-term goals to develop a structure for daily operations.

This may involve setting specific goals for each division or department, developing new positions, and restructuring departments.

  • Recommendations to the CEO : since the CDO / EDO typically has a close relationship with the company's employees and works alongside operations and logistics, they are responsible for relaying information to CEO including specific recommendations on how to implement the business strategy and achieve the company's long-term goals.
  • The CDO / EDO’s performance is measured based on efficiency, corporate performance, and corporate growth.

Chief Development Officer / Executive Director Operations Qualifications :

Education & Experience

  • 15+ years of recent related experience in progressively more complex and senior management / leadership roles in a related role and company
  • 5+ years' recent, relevant experience responsible for managing large mixed-use real estate developments, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Direct experience successfully achieving planning approvals within Metro Vancouver is an asset.
  • Direct experience with all stages of development delivery from acquisition through to construction completion
  • Strong experience with project financials budgets, cashflows, proformas
  • Related professional education and / or designation Master of Real Estate, Business Administration, Architecture, Engineering etc.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of PMP processes and designation
  • Demonstrated financial management experience : company & project financials (budgets, cash flows, proformas).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, direct, and implement processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, manage, and mitigate risk.
  • Ability to identify, plan and direct work assignments.
  • Ability to supervise and provide direction to others.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize functions to meet tight and evolving timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment subject to continuous change.
  • Demonstrated experience growing, scaling and stabilizing a serviced-based business successfully through a major growth phase.

  • Familiarity with contracts and consulting agreements.
  • Proven history of successful collaboration with stakeholders including municipal and review agency staff, residents and community groups, and politicians and their professional staff.
  • Proven track record in establishing and maintaining key relationships with clients, project partners, and lenders.
  • Successful experience achieving regulatory approvals and navigating municipal approvals.
  • Passion for business strategy, optimizing company and project performance and growth.
  • Fluent in project management, people and team leadership, all phases of development and construction.

Chief Development Officer / Executive Director Operations Renumeration :

In return for your contribution, we offer a compensation package that includes base salary, comprehensive benefits package, generous vacation time, and stock options for profit-share which expand overtime.

  • Base salary range for this role will be between $160,000 to $190,000.
