Community Peace Officer-Permanent

The Opportunity Community Services Department Full-Time Position Rotational shift schedule-4 days / week-10 hrs / day

We are seeking an experienced full-time Community Peace Officer to join our team. Reporting to the Manager of CPO Services this role is responsible for the day-to-day enforcement and administration of County bylaws and applicable provincial statutes with a strong emphasis on public safety traffic enforcement infrastructure protection and community education. Were looking for a community-minded professional who brings sound judgment strong conflict-diffusion skills and the ability to build positive relationships with residents partners and stakeholders. This position works four 10-hour shifts each week including weekend rotations from May through October.

Key Responsibilities

Independently conduct mobile patrols throughout Lacombe County to proactively prevent and detect statute infractions issuing violation tickets and laying charges in accordance with authorized legislation.

Perform investigations into complaints and incidents ensuring thorough documentation and follow-up.

Apply advanced knowledge of the Traffic Safety Act by conducting traffic stops and issuing warnings violation tags and provincial tickets.

Carry out commercial vehicle inspections with a high level of competency ensuring compliance with weight and dimension regulations through permits roadside checks and the use of weigh scales.

Liaise with and provide support to other County departments community groups and associations on enforcement related matters.

Provide skilled professional and approachable public education related to municipal bylaws and community safety.

Key Qualifications

Post-secondary diploma in a law enforcement related field or a Grade 12 diploma supplemented with a minimum of 3 years of related experience as a Level 1 CPO. Demonstrated traffic enforcement experience is required. CVSA inspection certification and prior experience delivering community and / or school based programs are strong assets.

Must meet all Justice and Solicitor General Peace Officer appointment requirements including successful completion of an approved physical abilities test (i.e. P.A.R.E.). An acceptable Criminal Record Check that includes a Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Valid and current First Aid and CPR certifications. Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta drivers license. Current Radar / Laser certification and EVOC training are assets. Must have completed or be willing to complete the Motor Transport Weights & Measures course.
