I am a Youth in conflict with the law.
My background might not be the same as yours and I may have had different opportunities than you did growing up, but I am a part of society and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
I could even be open to learning if given the chance.

If you want to work with me, you should have :
- Completed a post secondary education in a related field and have a minimum of one year's experience or 5 year of directly related experience working with youth who have been in conflict with the law
- Experience in Safety and Security or Police Foundations related work (preferred)
- Familiarity with Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviours and hold or be willing to get a Standard Firs Aid Level C CPR & AED certificate.
- Knowledge of working in an environment with strict or Ministry protocols, knowledge of high-risk offenders
- Demonstrated ability to prevent and / or manage aggressive behaviours, including physical interventions
- Proven ability to identify and manage group dynamics and facilitate group process
- Proven ability to organize and deliver social, recreational, and skills programs
- Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and rights as they apply to young offenders and residential Youth Care Workers
- Demonstrated knowledge of the facility mission, philosophy, policies and procedures
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Children's Service System
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension in the English language
You also must be able to produce a :
- Vulnerable Sector Check / Police Check
- Valid, unrestricted Class G Ontario Driver's license
- Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract through Service Ontario
- Employment Medical Form
As my Youth Justice Officer, you would be responsible to :
- Provide supervision and support to youth who are in conflict with the law in a custody facility as well as in the community
- Engage in behavioural interventions to establish clear expectations or residential behaviour using approved methods and training
- Implement appropriate corrective measures in accordance with the Positive Behaviour Intervention Support system, Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services requirements and other Ray of Hope policy and procedure
- Implement policies and procedures related to resident supervision and institutional security measures to ensure physical presence of each resident in the facility
- Conduct effective searches of person, facility and property
- Provides safe and secure transportation to residents in and out of the facility
- Develop, teach, create, organize, implement and participate in social, recreational, and skills programs with support of other team members, social workers, and program supervisors
- Complete admission and discharge of residents following established procedures
- Prepare and complete detailed written logs, incident reports, and other documentation of both routine and special situations regarding residents, staff, and program activities through the use of observation and recording skills
- Attend residents' health, medical and dental needs, in basic health related areas including substance abuse, physical / emotional abuse, suicidal behaviour, emotional distress, etc.
Attend to residents' ethnic, heritage, cultural and spiritual needs
- Act as a designated in-charge staff, which includes providing direction to other Youth Justice Officers (FT / PT YCWs) regarding and planning and organizing for the operational requirements of the facility.
- Assist in staff orientation, training and mentoring.
- Attend and actively participate in shift changeover meetings, case management plan meetings, team meetings and committees as may be assigned by the management team.
- Attend public, education, Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services or other meetings and training as required.
- Contribute and participate in the upkeep and maintenance of property.
- Follow occupational health and safety policies and programs and report and act on unsafe working conditions or work environment.
- Assume other duties as may be assigned.
