Loss Control Consultant –Property Accounts

Job Responsibilities :

Conducting property loss control inspections of various types of industries including : Oil & Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Generation, Mining, Forestry, Manufacturing, and Distribution

Evaluating physical hazards, sprinkler systems, management programs, maintenance programs, and providing guidance to clients

Evaluating client risk based on market reports, or gathered information, to provide guidance to underwriting staff regarding risk quality / insurability

Individual will be responsible for maintaining own schedule and writing survey reports

Job functions break out is approximately : On-site surveys and in-house risk evaluation of existing and prospective Starr Tech clients (65%), Writing risk reports or summaries (25%), Attending client meetings or presentations (10%)

Travel is both regional and local with a range of 0% - 25% monthly travel

This is an office-based position when not traveling

Skills Experience / Required :

Five years of experience within risk control, loss control, loss prevention, or risk management

Graduate with minimum Bachelor of Applied Science in a recognized engineering discipline with preference given to chemical engineers

Professional Engineering designation preferred. Ability to enroll in a EIT (Engineer-in-Training) program required

Ability to work independently, as well as in concert with underwriters and managers

Good communication, writing, organization, customer relation, public speaking, and time management skills.

Familiarity with basic computer operations with knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel

Understanding of fire protection systems, process hazards, property loss control issues preferred.

Technical knowledge of loss prevention codes (NFPA, FM, API, ASME, etc.) standards and industry practices preferred.

Individual must have valid driver’s license and be able to operate a vehicle. Access to a vehicle is preferred.
