Compensation : $90,000 to $110,000
Position Overview :
- Our client, a mid-sized industrial distributor in SE Edmonton, is looking for an Assistant Controller to join their team. This is a great opportunity for senior accounting professionals looking to develop their skills and advance into a Controller position.
Leadership Responsibilities :
Lead, support, and supervise assigned accounting team members, including remote staff.Plan, organize, and coordinate daily accounting activities such as cash processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payments, and record keeping.Develop, improve, and maintain procedures and workflows to increase efficiency, accuracy, and overall effectiveness.Oversee performance management activities, including onboarding, training, workload planning, and team development.Promote a professional work environment by ensuring clear communication, accurate guidance, and courteous responses to internal and external inquiries.Support cross-training initiatives to maintain operational coverage and flexibility within the department.Financial Reporting & Reconciliations
Prepare, review, and analyze working papers, journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.Ensure completion of financial reporting tasks within established deadlines.Perform and review key reconciliations, including bank accounts, inventory-related variances, and general ledger accounts.Maintain and reconcile fixed asset and amortization schedules as required.Review inter-entity transactions and ensure proper reconciliation on a periodic basis.Assist with the preparation of consolidated financial statements where applicable.Audit, Controls & Compliance
Coordinate and support internal and external audit activities, acting as a primary contact for auditors and ensuring timely completion.Assist in the design, implementation, and monitoring of internal financial controls across operating units.Ensure proper cut-off procedures at period-end and year-end, including identification and analysis of timing differences.Contribute to the development and documentation of accounting policies and business processes to strengthen control environments.Provide guidance and subject matter support for the organization’s financial systems and accounting platform.Offer expertise on the application of accounting standards and regulatory requirements.Support the adoption and implementation of applicable accounting frameworks.Banking & Regulatory Responsibilities
Monitor compliance with financing agreements and lending requirements, including preparation of periodic financial reports.Prepare or review required tax filings and ensure adherence to regulatory obligations.Accounts Receivable & Credit Oversight
Review and approve customer credit matters, including account restrictions and credit limit adjustments.Monitor receivable balances and participate in collection activities when needed.Conduct customer credit evaluations and maintain accurate credit records.Operational & Project Support
Prepare billing-related reconciliations, customer invoices, and financial reports as required.Provide financial information and analysis to support operational and project-related decisions.Must Have Qualifications :
CPA designation or working towards CPA4+ years of experience in a senior full-cycle accounting positionBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business-relatedProficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, & PowerPointLike To Have Qualifications :
