Responsibilities
In this role, you will work closely with our mining clients and technical teams on projects that span diverse sites with unique challenges to develop practical solutions for mine planning and closure.
Your work will include :
- In our fast-paced environment, your adaptability and prioritization skills will shine as you navigate unexpected challenges. As well as engaging in our critical thinking process, evaluating and recommending clever solutions in your work.
- You actively integrate health, safety and environmental considerations into every aspect of your work. This may look like completing hazard assessments and other HSE project requirements, following internal procedures and policies, participating in safety training, and promoting a safety culture.
- As a junior team member, you’ll participate in background reviews that support the development of conceptual models. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about mine planning and get involved in creating detailed mine plans, material balances, and schedules that are essential for integrated life-of-mine and closure plans.
- You'll get to work closely with our experienced teams in geotechnical, geoscience, hydrology, and geochemistry. Together, you’ll help design mine and tailings plans using engineering software. This collaborative approach will provide you with valuable insights into creating feasible, optimized integrated mine and closure plans.
- You’ll also have the chance to learn how to prepare cost estimates for projects and assist in writing technical documentation under the guidance of your mentors. This will be a fantastic learning experience as you contribute to proposals and technical reports that showcase our work.
- As you grow in your role, you’ll interact with both internal teams and external stakeholders, helping to build strong relationships. You’ll also assist in planning and conducting field investigations, such as material sampling programs, which will give you hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of mine planning operations.

If you're currently registered or eligible to register as an Engineer in Training and have some experience on projects related to mining or civil engineering, we’d love to hear from you!Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering is a requirement.Experience in an operating mine is a bonus, but it's not required, don’t hesitate to apply if you’re eager to learn!Familiarity with mine design and scheduling software such as Deswik CAD or Hexagon MinePlan would be fantastic.Experience with block model auditing, manipulation, or pit shell optimization is considered a plus.Availability to travel to sites when needed.Strong critical thinking skills to help you analyze information and evaluate various issues and risks.Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, as you'll interact with both internal and external stakeholders.Why Join Okane?
