THE POSITION

The role of a school psychologist is specifically focused on prevention, early identification, assessment, and support for students with disabilities or those experiencing or likely to experience adaptation or learning difficulties.

The primary goal of the role is to support these students in their educational journey and promote their personal and social development.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the psychology service while respecting educational and administrative frameworks at the level of institutions and the school board.
  • Participates in the screening and identification of students with difficulties, from a preventive and interventional perspective.
  • Plans and conducts psychological evaluations to clarify the functional profile and needs of the student.
  • Selects and uses standardized psychometric tools; conducts interviews and observations if necessary.
  • Analyzes and interprets collected data and observations.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop and revise the student's intervention plan, integrating their action plan if necessary, and participates in selecting objectives and intervention methods.
  • Assists teachers by clarifying the nature of problems, advising and supporting them in their educational approaches, and suggests or implements solutions to improve student success conditions.
  • Plans, organizes, and leads training activities.
  • Intervenes with students, groups of students, or parents, helps them identify difficulties, supports the exploration of solutions, and offers resources as needed.
  • Advises management staff and writes expert reports and evaluations to support decision-making.
  • Advises and supports school staff in integrating students into regular classrooms, proposing intervention methods or suitable activities.
  • May intervene in crisis or emergency situations to propose solutions.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with representatives of partner organizations, the health and social services network, and school boards.
  • Prepares and updates files according to professional standards and the rules defined by the school board, and writes progress notes or evaluation reports, end-of-process reports, and intervention follow-up reports.
