KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop mechanical systems and components using established engineering principles, applicable code, best practices.
- Interpret client requirements, identify design challenges, and develop accurate, practical and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Produce, review and maintain complete mechanical design packages, including calculations, models and manufacturing documentation.
- Perform technical analysis and engineering calculations to support design decisions and verify system performance.
- Select and specify materials, components and systems to meet functional, regulatory and project requirements.
- Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and external clients throughout the design and execution phases of projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project execution, resolve technical issues, and meet schedule and budget requirements.
- Participate in commissioning and testing activities for customized systems, both in-house and at customer sites, as required.
- Maintain accurate and organized engineering documentation in accordance with company standards and quality requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards, client specifications and internal policies.
- Manage assigned tasks to meet agreed project timelines and communicate proactively when adjustments are required.
- Adhere to all health, safety and corporate policies, including maintaining confidentiality of company and client information.
- Perform additional engineering tasks and support projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or an equivalent post-secondary credential.
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience as a mechanical designer in a multidisciplinary engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop complete design packages, including detailed fabrication and assembled drawings.
- Strong foundation in mechanical design principles, GD&T, tolerancing and detailing practices.
- Proficient in SolidWorks, including creation and management of complex assemblies, configurations, and design reviews.
- Experience preparing manufacturing-ready drawings and coordinating with fabrication, assembly and/or welding teams.
- Practical experience performing and interpreting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to support design decisions (stress, deflection, fatigue, etc.)
- Working knowledge of materials selection, hardware and common manufacturing processes.
- Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting schedules and quality requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot design and fabrication issues.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications for documentation and communication.
- Strong organization, planning and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- High standards of integrity, professionalism and reliability.
- Ability to remain composed and effective in high-pressure or fast-paced environments.
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Willing and able to use required personal protective equipment and work in shop or field environments as required.
