Reporting to the Director, Court Services, the Manager, Criminal Registry and Court Operations (Manager) is accountable for planning, organizing and managing the Nunavut Court of Justice (the "NCJ") Court Criminal Registry, all criminal court sittings and for providing courtroom support services to the judges of the NCJ.
The Manager provides leadership for strategic initiatives affecting court services delivery of all Criminal court operations and is responsible for efficiently and pro-actively managing stakeholder relationships in achieving program results. The Manager has spending authority on a delegated budget and is responsible for hiring, supervising, training and evaluating criminal section employees within the operation. This position is also assists with taxations as assigned by the Clerk of the Court. The Manager may hold statutory appointments as (1) Deputy Registrar, Court of Appeal, (2) Deputy Clerk of the Nunavut Court of Justice, (3) Deputy Clerk of the Youth Court, and (4) Administrative Justice of the Peace. Each such appointment requires the exercise of powers, functions and duties in accordance with the law and judicially established practices and procedures.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a diploma in business administration or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, along with six (6) years’ experience in court administration and one (1) year of progressively responsible management / supervisor experience, preferably in a criminal registry of a Superior court in Canada. Significant experience with and a sound working knowledge of Criminal Court practices and procedures and the ability to communicate effectively is required for this position. Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, the Financial Administration Act and other legislation relating to human resource management is an asset. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
