Position Overview
The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a Clerk 1 / Receptionist (ADM02) to provide temporary backfill support at the NS Housing Corporation office in Bridgewater. The successful candidate will perform a variety of standardized clerical and reception duties in accordance with established methods and procedures, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, professionalism, and customer service.
The position works under direct supervision and requires regular interaction with members of the public, staff, and internal departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist members of the public and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Operate and manage the office switchboard/telephone system, directing calls and taking messages as required.
- Perform a variety of routine and standardized clerical and administrative tasks.
- Prepare, organize, process, and file correspondence and other office documentation.
- Maintain accurate and orderly paper and electronic files in accordance with established procedures.
- Receive, sort, distribute, and deliver inter-office mail.
- Order and maintain supplies for various office equipment and general office requirements.
- Provide general administrative and clerical support to staff and the office.
- Follow established methods, procedures, and instructions while completing assigned tasks.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail when handling documentation and routine administrative work.
- Respond appropriately to routine inquiries and direct more complex matters to the appropriate staff member.
- Perform other related clerical/reception duties as assigned.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications & Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Grade XI education or equivalent.
- Related clerical/reception experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience performing standardized clerical tasks using established methods and procedures.
- Ability to provide professional reception and public-facing service, including greeting and assisting visitors.
- Ability to operate a switchboard/telephone system and appropriately direct calls.
- Experience with preparing and filing correspondence and documentation.
- Ability to handle routine administrative duties with a strong emphasis on accuracy.
- Ability to order office supplies and support general office operations.
- Ability to handle and distribute inter-office mail.
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision and follow established procedures.
- Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and customer-service skills.
- 100% onsite availability in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia for the assignment.
